The Marine Association Award for Underwater Photography
Manish Arora at Good Earth

We know the designer likes a bit of razzle-dazzle and we love the panache with which he wore this silk kurta which looked like it could accommodate the entire marine life of the Pacific. The riotous colours and kitsch motifs seem like they belong to a decadent night of binge drinking on a Hawaiian beach. But the designer disappointed with his matching blue-green sneakers. Only aunties match their clothes with shoes these days.

The Carrie Bradshaw Award for the gilt-ridden
Ami Jhaveri at Creo Launch

We like that the draping of this shimmery-as-fish scales, dhoti dress emphasises the lady’s curves— of which Jhaveri has a considerable amount of—but that’s just about all we like of the dress. The colour does nothing for us which might have flattered a lighter skin shade— a la Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City who pulls off a similar ensemble. She gets it right with the peep-toes but the statement black necklace should have been entirely done away with.

The Humpty Dumpty Recognition for the Criminally Unwearable
Pooja Bedi at the premier of 2012

It's not just food but dressing too can be fattening. Bedi needs to be given a lesson or two in body-conscious dressing. Lesson No 1: Get as far away as possible from those sticky T-shirts which only make you look like you swallowed a globe. Lesson No 2: High-waist jeans went out with Jew-bashing and homemade puddings a decade ago. The tapering silhouette of the denims doesn’t help either. And occasionally running a comb through that messily kooky hair might be a good idea.

The Pretty in Pink Award
Haseena Jethmalani at Good Earth

Jethmalani is an exceptional stylist and that’s something even her most claw-some ex-pals cannot deny. But seldom does Sassy Hassy out-do herself like she did at the Good Earth bash: I mean, who would wear a sari at a psychedelic Manish Arora party? (And carry it off with such wit). Here she wears an Anamika Khanna muslin sari with a backless blouse and a twisted rose on one shoulder. Teamed with never-ending necklaces and side-strung pearls; here’s a novel hippie.
