The guests were accorded a warm welcome by Principal Dr Madanjit Kaur Sahota, Swarn Singh and Kawalinder Singh, president and secretary of the College Managing Committee, respectively. Two technical sessions, chaired by Dr Anil Sarewal and Dr M.L. Tikku, respectively, were held. Dr Pushpinder Syal delivered the key-note address.
The resourcepersons comprising Manpreet Sahota, Ashima Dhir, Tajinder Kaur, Prof Dinesh Malik, Prof Sharad Manecha, Prof B R Ghai, Mavneet and Ritika spoke on the sub-topics like “To learn how to learn’, ‘Role of television in communicative skills, “The talent non-verbal communication,” “Improving vocabulary for effective communication,” “Teaching English as communication’ etc.
Manpreet Sahota stressed on the need for developing positive attitude and discussed the detrimental effects of negative traits like shyness, inferiority complex and self-doubt on one’s personality. Ashima Dhir emphasised on experimental learning i.e. learning by “doing” and learning during “the process.” Tejinder Kaur dwelt on the important strategies such as communicative practice, imitating of native speakers, using clues to understand meanings, purposeful reading, asking questions and using memorising techniques.
While addressing the students, Dr Madanjit Kaur Sahota said that fruitful deliberations for in-depth awareness on focussed area to equip the participants with the innovative communicative skills and thus empower them to become effective communicators was the need of the hour.
