IE is right in criticizing the silly act of EC.Election commission’s job is to conduct elections. It is none of ECs business to determine the loyalty of an MP for the country. There are courts to check if any law is offended.In fact we should be proud about Sonia Gandhi for winning an honor from a foreign country.

EC is right in issuing the the notice to Sonia Gandhi. The editorial in Indian Express is unwarranted and illogical. You can not compare Sonia Gandhi with Eisenhower and Tito. Compare apple to apple!This is a nonsense editorial. Indian Express editorial standards have gone down. Some sensible person in IE should interven and correct the situation. EC has every right to issue notice to Sonia or any other parliamentarian whom it finds that some section of the constitution is violated by their act. What is wrong in that? Why the IE editor is so infuriated?

In this editorial, most of the logics of the editor is simply nonsense. Of course, giving Bharat Ratna (jewel of India) to Nelson Mandela was insane. Bharat Ratna is not a Noble prize that you can give anyone in the world (This time, Bharat Ratna award was humiliated by lobbying to give it to Jyoti Basu, a person who was arrested on the charges of treason for supporting China in 1962 Chinese invasion). Why we should care that this award was given to whom all over the world? All countries have different laws. Does US allow a non-US born citizen to be its president? India allows it and also many other countries. We have rule that a person with allegiance or adherence with a foreign country should be disqualified from the parliament, so just boot Sonia out. That's all, full stop. No more discussions. Just look at the language used in this editorial, "He also quoted chapter and verse of the Constitution". Do we have verses in our constitution? This is time that we don't fall prey to ugly politicians and their dirty politics on such a vague issue . This particular issue has been into air for years in one form or another targeting Sonia Gandhi . There is distinct difference between the personalities you names in your editorial who recieved this award. The difference is that they never tried to 'protect' a Italian person (Quattrochi) in shameless manner for hurting INdia's interests and grabbing money from India on behalf of this Lady!!Her credentials are always doubtful.
