Pune, May 16 The Express Estates Home Expo was inaugurated by Mayor Rajlaxmi Bhosale at Sakhar Sankul on Friday afternoon, setting in motion the three-day event. The Expo will not only be a one-stop shop for people interested in buying properties in the city, it intends to set a benchmark by educating the public on all aspects of buying property including finance - home loans and legal issues.

While commending the real estate players for their share in building the city, the Mayor asked them to spare a thought for the large majority in the city who want affordable housing. “Many in the building industry, like the construction workers and labourers, do not have proper housing; they look after our needs and look after the city. The city in turn has to look after them,” said Bhosale. She called upon the banks to make loans easily available for the poor.

Bhosale also mooted the proposal of building servant quarters in every luxury apartment, where FSI would be free of cost.

Mukund Sangoram, Resident Editor, Loksatta, said that the development of the city reflects in the construction activity. Pune is among the fastest growing city in country. With the “aspiring class” increasing, the builders are going for townships instead of sole buildings. “However, it is their duty to build infrastructure as well. Along with the corporation, it is the responsibility of the real estate players to upgrade the basic infrastructure of the city,” he said.

Vinod Mathew, Resident Editor of The Indian Express, said that the real estate was as much synonymous with Pune as the automobile and the IT sectors. “It is a big business. Last year, the turn over was over Rs 3,000 crore. Naturaly, The Indian Express Group has a stand on the real estate and this is the first time we have organised the Estates Expo here. We expect this platform to serve as an open discussion platform between experts and the public for technical, legal and financial aspects involved in buying property,” he said.

On Saturday at noon, experts like the deputy general manager of Bank of Baroda Subir Das, chairman and director general of Kohinoor Group Krishnakumar Goyal, CEO of Indiaproperties.com Naresh Malkani, DGM, State Bank of India Rajnish Kumar and general manager HDFC, Pune Dilip Apte will talk on housing finance.

The evening session at 5 pm will focus on the technical aspects of construction where architect Shashi Prabhu, director Y S Sane Consultants Umesh Joshi, CMD Nyati Builders, Nitin Nyati, architect Pradeep Tethe and director Prestige Developments Rajesh Choudhary will put forth their expert opinion.

On Sunday, the noon session will have the president of PBAP and CMD Kumar Builders Lalit Kumar Jain, legal expert Billol Khoratkar, Magarpatta Township CMD Satish Magar, MD Aditya Builders Shantilal Kataria and PMC city engineer Prashant Waghmare discuss the legal aspects of construction.

At 5 pm, interior designers Ram Paradkar and Hari Agashe along with landscape experts Jayant Dharap and Vikas Bhosekar and architect Rajiv Raje will give an insight into interior and exterior aspects of homes.

The expo will be open to the public from 2.30 pm to 8 pm. On Saturday and Sunday, the public will have access to the expo from 10 am to 8 pm.
