Mumbai, March 18 A retired seaman, who was recently arrested by the Railway Police after a Mumbai Port Trust clerk complained that he winked at her at CST railway station, was sent to judicial custody on Tuesday.

According to the police, Gautam Namdeo Kamble (48), the seaman whose wife left him some time back, was after the clerk and had followed her to the railway station before making lewd gestures on March 15.

Kamble resides in the government quarters at Bandra. After Kamble’s wife left him some time back, he was after Jinal, 29, (name changed), a clerk at the Mumbai Port Trust. “Kamble’s first came across Jinal in Vihkroli where she resides. He often used to make lewd gestures at her and follow her to her office and back. But Jinal never responded to his advances. Last month, when Kamble again misbehaved with Jinal, a non-cognisable offence was registered against him at Kannamvar Nagar police station,” said Shashank Shinde, police inspector of government railway police, CST.

According to Shinde, on March 15 when Jinal and her sister were on their way back home around 6 pm, Kamble followed them to the CST railway station. “Kamble winked at Jinal and made some lewd gestures through his face while they were standing at platform no 3. Furious at his action, Jinal started screaming and crowd gathered. Our men brought Kamble to the police station and registered an offence against him under Section 509 of the IPC for outraging a woman’s modesty,” said Shinde. Kamble was produced before court and was in police custody for two days before being sent to judicial custody on Tuesday.
