Mumbai terror attack

London The FBI has given to Pakistan evidence amassed by it on involvement of elements based in that country in the Mumbai strikes, including on the LeT handlers' warning to the attackers about the arrival of Indian commandos while watching the mayhem live on TV, a media report in London said on Sunday.

Stating that evidence is growing to prove that the Mumbai strikes were orchestrated by militants based in Pakistan, 'The Sunday Times' reported that Zarar Shah, a communications specialist of Lashkar-e-Toiba, has admitted under interrogation in Pakistan that he advised the terrorists by phone as the attacks unfolded.

Controllers in Pakistan watched live television and warned the gunmen of the arrival of Indian commandos, the report said, citing evidence amassed by the FBI and handed over to the Pakistani government.

The FBI had decoded Skype calls over the internet that were made between the gunmen in two five-star hotels and a Jewish centre in Mumbai with their LeT controllers in Pakistan, identified as Shah, Abu Hamza and Abu Qafa, it said.

Talking in colloquial Punjabi, the controllers repeatedly told the attackers "Aag lagao" ("light the fire"), which has been interpreted in India as a way of maximizing casualties, the paper said.

During the conversation, the men were also instructed to kill all the Israelis held captive in the Jewish hostel, but to spare all the Muslims, it said.

Shah revealed that the 10 assailants were trained in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir and then travelled by boat from Karachi to Mumbai. He implicated several other Lashkar men.

According to the report, Islamabad rejected the alleged FBI evidence and dismissed India's contention about close ties between LeT and ISI.

india revealed on the first day of attack that all terrorist came from pakistan. see the papers. How they could know it without arresting any body. if their intelligence is so sharp then why didnt they stop entering india. can a planned attack included such things which are made in pakistan. were they fool to carry such things which proves them to be pakistanis. On the first attempt of attack, some senior police persons were killed. does it not show that basic perpose of this attack was to kill these police officers and rest of that was a darama. as shown in indian movies. LOLit is a real drama produced by a failed writer and producer. Any body can buy some persons from any country to give a statement against any body.. it shows here

lets be mature by sivaram on 05 Jan 2009

the whole episode was shown on TV, may be this shouldbe banned, i would suggest that any incidence like this , then curfew should be imposed, and only military camaras be allowed, fottage of these can be shown to general public post operation is complete!! public should be banned from being spectators, it was horrifying to see large number of crowds gathered as if there was a mega show, all these people only added to the misery of operation, people harldy relaise the impications of being in front of these places and added agony to rescue of injured!! are we celebrating or we are confused!!

Lets be mature by Vincent Chan on 05 Jan 2009

I fully endorse what Sivaraman has mentioned. It is time that the media use common sense doing their job. Maybe we can learn a thing or two from other countries who have faced smilar situations.

For Pakistan no evidence is needed from FBI or anyone else since they know their involvement. For India the only option is for a new government that is willing to respond to Pakistan by S.Balakrishnan on 05 Jan 2009

Islamabad rejects any and every evidence it receives from anybody about the terrorism perpetrated by its citizens on Mumbai citizens and its visitors. It proves that Pakistan is not keen on curbing terrorism and gives credence to the belief that ISI and the Pak army are actively involved in these activities. India possibly wants USA to act and USA has its own problems with the supply route and would not like to provoke Pakistan. This leaves India with very little option and they have ruled out strike against Pakistan. Let us braze for more of these attacks and hopefully for a better government before long that will respond properly to Pakistan. We have no hope with the present government who seems more interested in protecting themselves than the nation at large.

Mumbai terror attack by Sreedhar on 04 Jan 2009

This shows how thoghtless and irresponsible our channels can become just to have one upmanship. Channels should be banned from airing any of the police and Armed forces operations live. Channels job is to report facts and not to speculate and dicuss war and operational strategies. The channel does not have all the information and details the Government of the day have. They also are not aware of the overall policy and international strategies of the Government. It is frustrating to see young TV anchors advising and Questioning Government Ministers on TV with their limited knowlege of international chess game and stragies. It is high time the Government bring restrictions in this area. Our TV channels also must learn how to report on such situations from other countries.

FBI hands over 26/11 attacks evidence to Pak' by sunit on 04 Jan 2009

The controllers of terrorists in Mumbai massacre were guided by the live television coverage of various events and they in turn giving appropriate instructions to the terrorists. Our security agencies were helpfully telling the live TV media what tactics were being employed. That is one of the main reasons why the terrorists were able to hold on for more than 3 days. This is in stark contrast to total black out of front line news of the Israel's Gaza confrontation. Don't our agencies know the importance of carrying such operations in well guarded secrecy until it is over? It is of no use making an appeal to the media to exercise caution and refrain. Some of such directives should be imposed on such occasions.

Media Makes Terrorist's Life Easy by Santhosh Vijayan on 04 Jan 2009

The competition among different media companies helped the terrorists a lot by giving per minute update of what Indian defence is planning to do next alongwith live videos. Moreover you can see every piece of confidential movements are highly covered and discussed with more and more elaborations on every media day to day. Do we have any law available these kind of live broadcasts and discussions? Is it really legal? Is media free to do all these in all the countries or only in India?

Attack by M. Y. Imran on 04 Jan 2009

India should take action at an appropriate time and in a very, very special surprise manner in order to eliminate those involved in Terror activities and all so-called camps in PoK and other areas. The attack should be carried out in such a manner that PAF will have no time to react. This should be properly planned, in order to study the matter by defence think tank.
