New Delhi Maintaining that the Mumbai attacks were "managed" from Pakistan, the US on Tuesday said an FBI team will be going to that country to carry on the probe.

US Ambassador David C Mulford also played down the fears of an Indo-Pak war, saying there was no such possibility.

"We have said that this attack was managed from Pakistani soil ... we have said that. Secretary of State (Condoleezza Rice) has said that when she was here (in India). Other senior officials have also indicated this in the United States," American Ambassador David Mulford told an Indian TV channel.

Mulford was responding to a question on whether the US was convinced with the facts unearthed through investigations by India that root of terror was in Pakistan.

On being asked that FBI officials were not getting access to Pakistan for carrying out their investigations related to Mumbai attacks, Mulford said that they would indeed be going there.

"They have their visas and will be going there ... Yes they will ... They are finishing some things here," he said.

On the possibility of a war between India and Pakistan, Mulford said "I never came to a point where I thought there was going to be a war, nor do I think so now."

He said India has been "restrained in its rhetoric. I think, it has been appropriately insisting and tough. I think it is about getting to the bottom of the things with Pakistan as it is a terrorist issue ... I don't think it (war) is there at the moment."

Mulford said "War is not something that has been thought by India."

On the rhetoric by Pakistan, he said it was a "temporary phenomenon" which apparently had "some short-term benefit for them (Pakistan)... I don't think it is there now."
