Mumbai, August 31 The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Maharashtra Police have decided to launch a drive to secure WiFi network across the state.

The drive will be kicked off by a seminar on the WiFi facility at the Narsee Monjee Institute for Management Sciences at 3 pm on September 1. The seminar, which will consist of a two hour demonstration by FICCI’s head of Information Technology Vijay Mukhi, aims at educating people about the facility so that they can secure the networks themselves.

“Many members of the FICCI are scared of the wireless technology and a lot of high profile people have approached me to secure their WiFi connections,” said Mukhi. “This is a new step initiated by us in our 8 year partnership with Maharashtra Police. I’ll personally go to 12 colleges in the state to conduct this seminar,” he said. The seminar will also have a panel discussion on many other aspects of the cyber law and security and speech on citizens rights in these cases by Anand Desai of DSK legal.

The Chief Guest will be AN Roy, DGP MAharashtra. The state Intelligence Chief D Sivanandan and Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and order) KL Prasad will also be guests of honour.

“There is a high possibility for the misuse of the WiFi in Mumbai. It’s important that everybody should know about this since they will be booked if miscreants use their WiFi connections,” said Prasad.
