Kolkata, May 29 The East Midnapore police have admitted that the FIR lodged by Garchakraberia residents against the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) DIG Aloke Raj did not mention any charge of molesting women. It was earlier believed that the DIG had been charged for alleged misconduct with women. With the CRPF already giving Raj a clean chit after an internal inquiry, he is now waiting for the report of the investigation being conducted by the district police.

Manoranjan Das and 15 other Garchakraberia residents had lodged a complaint on May 12 with the Nandigram police alleging that Raj, along with his security personnel, had assaulted them and ransacked a few houses on May 11.

Aloke Raj told The Indian Express on Thursday that the allegations against him were baseless. He said, “ I never ransacked any house in the village. The truth will come out after a fair probe. I have full faith in the state police that it will undertake an impartial investigation into the case.” The DIG, however, was not contemplating any legal action such as challenging the FIR in court.

There was another complaint lodged by the Nandigram police station officer-in-charge Debasish Chakraborty. He had alleged that the CRPF personnel obstructed him from carrying out his duties on May 11. The CRPF assistant commandant Prem Kumar, with 12-13 security personnel, had assaulted him, Chakarborty had alleged.

Claiming these charges to be false, the DIG said that there was a scuffle between the CRPF personnel and the state police, however, the Nandigram police had refused to register the CRPF’s complaint.

DSP East Midnapore, Asit Sarkar, is investigating the two complaints against the CRPF personnel. Although it has been two weeks since a complaint was lodged against the Central force, the district police are yet to inform them.

Admitting that the district police had conducted an investigation, East Midnapore SP, S S Panda refused to comment why the investigating officer did not consider the account of the CRPF contingent during the inquiry. “Law will take its own course,” Panda said.
