New Delhi Finance Minister P Chidambaram was on Sunday appointed Home Minister after incumbent Shivraj V Patil resigned owing moral responsibility for the Mumbai terror attacks, the worst the country had seen.

63-year-old Chidambaram, who has had a stint as Minister of Internal Security under the late Rajiv Gandhi in late 1980s, was shifted to the Home Ministry after demands for the ouster of Patil, who had come under severe attack for his handling of internal security matters.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, himself an economist of repute, will hold the Finance portfolio at a time when the country is suffering from the ripple effects of the global recession. Singh had held the Finance portfolio for five years under the late P.V.Narasimha Rao.

A Rashtrapati Bhawan communique announced the appointment of Chidambaram as Home Minister after acceptance of Patil's resignation. It said the Prime Minister will hold the additional charge of Finance.

Indications that Chidambaram would be given the new responsibility came when he was called as a special invitee to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) last night and he met the Prime Minister this morning to discuss the situation arising out of the Mumbai terror attacks.

After recommending Patil's resignation to President Pratibha Patil, who is away in Indonesia, the Prime Minister spoke to Chidambaram formally conveying the decision to give him the new assignment.

The appointment also came hours before the start of the all-party meeting convened by the Prime Minister to discuss the Mumbai attacks and evolve a consensus on how to combat terror.

Major S.N. Tripathi writes to the Learned Home Minister. With info. Print and Electronic Media Your Excellency the Home Minister of India. I write to remind you the standards setup for the office of the Home Minister by the IRON MAN SARDAR PATEL. This office is created by the constitution to punish the violators of the law of the land and protect the lovers of the Rule of Law and justice. But unfortunately, your demonstrated conduct is just the opposite. Please take steps to punish the enemy No.1 of India today and that is the corruption let loose in all public offices making ordinary man%u2019s life a living hell. You are right when you exercise your power under clause (2) of Article 19 of the constitution. But you are wrong when you forget your duties under clause (1) of this Article which is constitutional condition for exercising power. You are right when you sit in Lok Sabha to determine the questions directly affecting t

Jail ward in Distt. Hospitals and above by Vijay Kumar on 07 May 2011

Dear Mr. Chidambaram I have noted that whenever, and big shot, is apprehended, he immediately complains of some ailment like Chest Pain or Stomach Pain, or Heart Trouble etc, thus avoiding being pur behind the bars. My suggestion is that in every Distt. Hospital, or above, a Jail Ward should be created, with similar look of being behind the bar, service only at times provided by Jail system, visit also regulated like that only. 2) Daily, court should be held with the minimum Court Like proceedings for Police Remand, etc. routine matters. For other cases, the Court may be held in the Jails for those who are behind the bars, so that the transit to court and related problems may be avoided. Submitted for consideration. Vijay Kumar

Persecuted inKandhamal by Saji Philip on 13 Mar 2010

Dear Sir, Greetings to you and thank you for deputing Mr.Raghaven, an honest officer as reported by the Hindu. I, as a citizen of this country, take joy in knowing that some one who can be trusted is handling such sensitive cases to bring justice to the family who have suffered injustice in Gujarat from the hand of corrupt politicians. I wonder when the persecuted Christians of Kandhamal and Gajapathy districts of Orissa will get justice. The recent report says that MANY ACCUSED HAVE BEEN ACQUITTED DUE TO INSUFFICIENT EVIDENCE. The struggles of the hundreds of Christians who live in plastic tents since many months in Kandhamal dt. cannot be described. WE REQUEST YOU TO kindly depute honest officers like Mr.Raghavan to investigate tha tatrocities committed against innocent people in Orissa. They are not yet properly rehabilitated. It is sad to see that so many Christians are living in their own land as refugees. Should they live in plastic tent forever. Thank you

telangana as the seperate issue by sujith on 05 Jan 2010

I as the student,as a responsible citizen and as the voter of this grate democratic governament wants to bring you the kind notice of Telangana issue. You announced that all parties decisions had to be concerned in Andhrapradesh. It was already a closed matter that all the parties had supported the Telangana as a seperate state in their party Manifestos befor 2009 may elections.here we as the Demacratic nation has some kind of respect in the world politics. You should not have to concern the real hero and the real life vilan of Telangana people.Their was no right for him[..........] to talk against TELANGAN STATE.I suppose the governament of INDIA to take the awards back which was given to him by the GOVT of INDIA to a vilan of 4 crore telangana people. Its not the time to dissolve the issue of telangan it's the time to solve the proble of telangana sincierly to live the people of telangana to lead their culture and language. To live with self respect. Frustration in Border Security Force by suresh on 20 Oct 2009

Sir,I request you to highlight the subject. Some points are mentioned under which is creating frustation in border security force: 1. An officer in bsf is still deputy commandant after 15 to 16 yrs of service and his counterpart enrolled in the same year through cpos exam is either 2ic or commandant. However army officer becomes lt col in 12 years and gets pay band 4 however bsf officer is likely to become 2ic after 17 to 18 yrs of service but he will remain in pay band 3. 2. Army personnels posted anywhere like in army hq delhi get full 60 days of annual leave, 28 days of casual leave and ration money. However personnels posted in bsf hq at places like bandipur, kupwara in srinagar and same type of places in northeast gets only 30 days of annual leave and 8 days of casual leave and no ration money. Now few questions that bsf personnel are generally asking but not getting the satisfactory replies causing frustration in bsf. 1 Are we not staying away from our families? 2 Do we require less days of leave to spend time with family? 3 If we stay in any hq then bsf personnel do not require ration. 4 The courses in bsf are like army and the course covers conventional war subjects to give support to army but still why are we not at par with army in any case? 5 Our bsf act and rule is carbon copy of army act and rule which says bsf is an armed force but why are we not considered as an armed force? 6 Bsf does not have any peace and field of 3years unlike bsf staying in borders or line of control during their full service period then why our allowances are less than army? 7 In all the places of disturbance and line of control bsf units are under the operational command of army brigades doing the same job like army then why bsf is not at par with army? 8 our identities in our villages was of a fauzi and now we are neither fauzi nor police. Why this tragedy? Request a debate on this subject since all higher authorities are IPS officers and have no concern about the bsf personnel.

Information about Terror attack by Sanjay Yerunkar on 15 Jul 2009

Its always found that media published the information about terror attack, which helps terrorist to change their plan accordingly. I strongly think that there should be some restriction on media which will not allow them to published such information and thereby its kept as confidential which will enable our police force to take corrective action accordingly.

1)We should create a Universal Security Group for Universalism (USGU). 2)We should create a certain percentage of funds from the security system fund and it should be used for this special group.3)We should recruit the executives, who will do brain wash of others to live with joy and peace and avoid the terrorism.4)Maximum executives must have to be a special character or lawyer. So that they could maintain the Law like the Lord’s Analyzed Wishes.5)The payment of executives will be made from that specific Govt. allocated fund.6)This USGU will find out the similarities of logic from the various religions.7)This USGU will respect all the religions and they will try to find out the scientific causes from those religious philosophies and make understand others, so that public can easily avoid the terrorism.8)This special group’s executives will find out the story of patience, and success of patience and failure of terrorism from every local religious story. discriminate the minority by esa on 15 Dec 2008

15 ethnic Indians on hunger strike over Malaysia security lawFifteen ethnic Indians launched a hunger strike in Malaysia on Sunday to demand the abolition of a tough security law which the government says is needed to combat terrorism, organisers said. "The five-day hunger strike is to protest against the draconian Internal Security Act (ISA) and to demand all detainees are freed," S. Jayathas, coordinator of the rights group Hindraf which organised the strike, told AFP. "The hunger strike is also to demand the government end all injustices in Malaysia and stop discriminating against minority Indians." The ISA, a relic of the British colonial era when it was used to fight a communist insurgency, allows for renewable two-year periods of detention without trial. Malaysia's government says it is a vital tool to fight terrorism, but rights groups say the law has been improperly used to silence government critics, and that detainees are mentally and physically tortured. Rights groups say 70 people, mainly alleged Islamic militants, are being held under the ISA. The protesters are staging their hunger strike at a small temple north of Kuala Lumpur. Some of those taking part are relatives of five ethnic Indian leaders of Hindraf, who are being held under the ISA. The five, one of whom is a state lawmaker, were arrested after enraging the government last November by mounting a mass rally alleging discrimination against Malaysia's minority ethnic Indians. Ethnic Indians make up less than eight percent of the 27-million-strong population of the mainly Muslim Malay country. Jayathas said the protesters would only consume water during the strike.
