New Delhi The reported bugging of Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee's office gave BJP a handle to allude to a "civil war" between him and Home Minister P Chidambaram, saying this seems to have led the former to ask for a probe by a private agency and not government sleuths.

The Indian Express reported on Tuesday that Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to conduct a secret probe to find out who had 'planted adhesives' in his North Block office.

“Today, the UPA government is completely directionless, rudderless, without leadership and apprehensive. The situation has come to such a pass that the Finance Minister suspects his office is bugged. The country wants to know who is bugging his

office,” BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said.

He indicated there seems to be a lack of trust between the Finance Minister and the Home Minister.

“Instead of getting the investigations into the matter done by the Home Ministry (under which several investigating agencies fall), the Finance Ministry had asked a private detective agency to probe," Hussain said.

He demanded details of the probe report be made public as the people want to know the facts.

“On the one hand, this government is talking to civil society (on Lokpal Bill) and on the other there is a civil war on amongst its leaders,” Hussain said.

He maintained this had led union ministers to engage in a show of oneupmanship with their cabinet colleagues.

Hussain wanted to know that if the office of the Finance Minister of this country is not safe -- especially at a time when the government is facing so many corruption charges -- then which office is.

“People want to know if this government is being blackmailed (by those bugging the office),” Hussain said. The Lok Sabha MP maintained that with some Congress leaders openly expressing a particular party leader should become Prime Minister, the incumbent Manmohan Singh should make his views on this issue clear to Sonia Gandhi.

BJP Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi termed the reported bugging of the Finance Minister's office a “serious” issue especially as it has occurred at a time when several

high-profile cases of financial scam have come to light.

“It is a serious matter. If what has come to light is true, then it needs to be investigated. This has come at a time when there are so many cases of financial irregularities and scams,” Naqvi said.

He wondered who could be behind such an act and alluded to somebody in the government having an interest in bugging the Finance Minister's office.

“Pranab Mukherjee is no. 2 in the Cabinet. Who is bugging its own ministers? It needs to be investigated. This raises a lot of disturbing questions,” Naqvi said.

Bugging, Lokpal bill by Hariharan on 22 Jun 2011

Bugging need not necessarily be an insider's work. We have to take a serious view and find out the guilty.Deterrent punishment should be imposed on the guilty Every Indian wants to reduce corruption to a minimum. There are six main points on which differences exist.BJP,being the main opposition Party, should take a stand on those differences and explain the reasons for its stand on each. This will enable the parties to moderate their stands and achieve a workable compromise. Its anti-congress statements cannot be taken as proof of its anti-corruption stand.

Sangh Parivar behind !!!! by Aniyan on 22 Jun 2011

Pranabji, it is RSS, VHP, Bhajrang Dal and BJP hands behind the adhesive issue in your office. It is an action aimed at knowing the pulse of a senior minister, as Digvijay and Sonia are all set to make the Amul Baby, the PM of India. Theo offer is already sent and the 'Baby' is negotiating for his salary and other package as he feels, he could get better package back in his home country city Turin. So, the Congress had found none other than the Sangh Parivar to investigate on pulse of FM, whether he was cooking something to throw against the 'Baby' !! Digvijay, pick this up from here... after all you are the Gen Secy with a status of no takers !!!

Security Risk and FM by anil bharali on 22 Jun 2011

Any body in this democratic country can raise a security question that should be taken seriously particularly by a very Seniormost minister like Pranab Mukharjee. It is far more serious because he has shown no confidence on Home Ministry. Home Minister P Cidambaram must react to it instead of remaining silent. Let us see what is goiing to happen!!

Mr. Finance Minister by Prathamesh Sanjay Amrutkar on 22 Jun 2011

Now our Mr. finance minister wants to waste money on some investigation about adhesives planted in his office. Pranab Mukherjee may be doubting on BJP or any other opposition party but that 'jasoosi' can be done by chidambaram, sonia gandhi, or his home state rival (now friend) Mamata Banerjee. We can't neglect the point raised by BJP saying there is civil war is running in between chidambaram and Mr. Mukherjee, like Gopinath Munde and Mr. Nitin Gadkari??? ha ha
