Shabnam, who worked closely with Israr, was arrested following his interrogation. Shabnam got in touch with Israr a few months back and was working as the face of the gang, a senior police officer said. She used to help in circulation of the fake currency in the market.
"Fake currency amounting to Rs 15,500 was recovered from her possession, while Rs 36,000 genuine cash was recovered from her house in Trilokpuri," the officer said.
The police had recovered Rs 99,500 counterfeit Indian currency in denomination of Rs 500 from Israr who was arrested from ISBT Anand Vihar. Israr had been working as a helper in a tailor shop in Malka Ganj and had joined the racket about two years back.
A police team comprising Inspector Govind Sharma and S-I Vinay Tyagi were closely tracking the trail of fake Indian currency case that started from Nepal, Bangladesh and reached India via conduits when the gang was busted.
