Acting on the complaints, the Cyber Cell has started investigating the matter.

Preliminary inquiries conducted by the police revealed that the profiles were created by certain miscreants who morphed the ladies’ pictures and posted their phone numbers in the profiles, as a result of which, the women are now getting unsolicited phone calls.

In a press release issued by the Cyber Cell, it was informed that whenever a person creates a profile on Orkut, a unique id is automatically generated by the website. With this, the website can trace complete information about the Internet Service Provider of the person concerned followed by his details through the Internet Service Provider.

The Cyber Cell officials added, “It has been observed that certain youngsters who are indulging in such unfair practices of creating fake profiles of girls/ women, adding obscene pictures and posting telephone numbers of those girls/women, for the sake of fun or with a motive of harassing somebody, are not aware of the consequences and repercussions. We would like to warn such persons, who would straightway land behind the bars if caught.”
