Bangalore, January 5: Mohammed Haneef, city-based doctor who was cleared of terror charges in Australia, on Saturday said he may not return to that country as his family was not letting him go back and was likely to work in the Middle-East.

"My family is adamant in not sending me back to Australia," said the 27-year-old medico, who has just returned home after a one-and-half-month Haj pilgrimage.

Haneef, who was working in Gold Coast Hospital in Australia, returned to India in July last year after being cleared of terror charges in the botched Glasgow airport suicide attack in the UK. The Australian Government withdrew all the charges and restored his visa a few days ago.

He said he has not decided on going back to Australia to work and hopefully would take a call in the next two weeks.

"Unless we get reassurance from the Australian Government and AFP (Australian Federal Police), we (he and his family) will not go back," Haneef said, describing days in detention in Australia last year as the "worst part of my life and a traumatic experience".

He had maintained in the past that he had been "victimised" and "harrassed" in Australia with his case being "politicised" in an election year in that country.

On the full judicial enquiry in Australia, Haneef said he would attend it if he is asked to do so.

Haneef said he is looking forward to work again. "I have a few offers from the Middle-East. I am looking forward to work soon".

Family not letting me go back to Australia: Haneef by Hemant on 08 Jan 2008

Haneef mia, you can earn a living in India. I am sure there are several patients available who can avail of your services. When you were in trouble in Australia we the Indians supported you and put pressure on the PM by writing emails and messages asking him to do something about your situation. Your wife is a brave woman, but she alone couldn't have done anything unless the Indian media (not muslim media, Indian media) had backed her up to the hilt. The middle east or the muslim countries did not say a word in your support. Stay in India and take care of your family. Just a suggestion... but if you get in trouble again... don't expect us to help you again!

Why you want to work in the middle east.India has many hospitals and they need efficient doctors too if you are one of them.

Why so much publicity for Haneef story? by KMR Overseas on 07 Jan 2008

He just got-off the net, that does not mean he perfect guy and all his claims are correct!!! We all know what Islamic terrorists doing across the world.

Dr Haneef by U. Muralidhar on 07 Jan 2008

I am astonished that Dr Haneef still entertains the idea of returning to Australia which treated him atrociously. Fair enough, he fought to clear his name from association with terrorism. It would be sobering for him to note that a vast majority of Australians entertained suspicions about his character in spite of the exposure of fabricated lies told by the previous government. If he expects a normal life in Australia, then he must be living in fantasyland. In this country it would be difficult for him to live with his pride and honour intact after all this. I greatly admired the stance and unwavering confidence displayed by his wife throughout the ordeal. I hope he will listen to her and refrain from causing further grief.

If you wish to do... by kanti on 05 Jan 2008

Its better for you to go to Australia, work again to have a better future and teach a lesson to the world with your good attitude ,if you are so.
