New Delhi, May 4: Come 2010 Commonwealth Games, Delhi will see fancy cycle rickshaws being pulled by well-attired men trained in etiquettes.

These rickshaws will ply in the Games Village and some other areas of the capital.

"We are procuring a few cycle rickshaws which will be plying in the Games Village during the Commonwealth Games in 2010," said a senior Urban Development Ministry official.

The environment-friendly rickshaws will serve as a mode of connectivity during the Games, he said.

A pilot project to introduce fancy cycle rickshaws in Delhi and Chandigarh as part of the National Urban Transport Policy will soon be commissioned by the UD Ministry.

The design and other features of the rickshaws will be finalised shortly, he said and added that besides Games Village these rickshaws will also be plying in some other areas in the capital.

While there will be a dress code for rickshaw-pullers, they will also be given some customary etiquette lessons before the Games, he said.

The National Transport Policy promotes the non-motorised mode of transport as they are environment-friendly. The cycle rickshaws are also the only available means of public transport for short distances.

The UD Ministry is asking the municipal bodies to evolve and execute a new cycle rickshaw policy.
