Kolkata, April 4 If you are above 55 and looking for a respite from the din and pollution of the metros, lookout for “retirement villages” scheduled to come up in the state in two years.

The villages will come up at Bolpur, Chandernagore, Durgapur, Mayapur, Rajarhat, Shankarpur and Siliguri under Project Rainbow, a joint venture between Shelter Projects Limited and the West Bengal Housing Board.

Feedback Ventures, a consultancy firm, is preparing the detailed project report for developers Bengal Shelter. “The detailed business plan for the entire project will be finalised by mid June,” said Debasish Som, president, Group Business Development, Eastern region. Facilities would be developed so that proper connectivity between villages and nearby hospitals is ensured, he said, adding that logistics and connectivity would be given top priority.

“The villages with state-of-the-art facilities, cottages and service apartments will come up in an area of about 20 acres. The project will be completed in two years,” said Parthosarathi Sengupta, a Bengal Shelter officer. “We seek to enter into tie-ups with Australian and American companies who are experts in setting up similar villages,” he said.

The company officials, however, declined to give any investment figures, explaining that the exact investment estimate could be ascertained only after the project report is completed in a couple of months.

“We are targeting NRIs and foreign nationals for these villages, but everyone is welcome. We will promote social engagement amongst the residents through teaching and gardening, so that they will live a healthy retired life,” said developers of the villages.
