Mumbai Two days after he died in Singapore due to a kidney ailment, Bollywood filmmaker Raj Kanwar's last rites were held here today.

Kanwar passed away on February 3. He was reportedly suffering from kidney ailment for the past one year and had recently gone to Singapore for a kidney transplant. However, he passed away even before the surgery.

The cremation was held at 12 pm at Oshiwara cremation ground in suburban Andheri.

Besides his family members including wife Anita and two sons, several Bollywood personalities had come to bid farewell to the departed soul.

Those present at the funeral included filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, director duo Abbas-Mustan, actors Raza Murad and Satish Kaushik, producer Sajid Nadiadwala, Poonam Sinha with son Luv among others.

"At funeral of Raj Kanwar who's first job was as my assistant and went on to make many successful films. Still remember him as a kid obsessed by film. 15 members of Raj Kanwar's family were massacred in riots after Indira Gandhi's assassination. I was with him that day now at his funeral," filmmaker Shekhar Kapur wrote on twitter.

"I often stay at funerals long after people have left. After the ritual its a place to reflect on your own mortality," he said.

Kanwar gave memorable films like 'Deewana', 'Laadla', 'Jeet', 'Daag: The Fire', 'Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke' and 'Andaaz'. His last film was 'Saadiyaan' in 2010, which launched Shatrughan Sinha's son Luv.
