District Magistrate Subir Bhadra said the BDR opened fire when cattle were being smuggled to Bangladesh near Nimtita area of the district.
The BSF retaliated after an Indian border guard was injured in the BDR firing, Bhadra said.
BSF sources said constable R K Pande received gunshot injuries in the leg and lost four fingers while he, along with 28 members of his battalion, were chasing the rustlers who were taking away cattle to Bangladesh in a boat.
The BSF seized 258 cattlehead, the sources said. A flag meeting was held in Murshidabad where the BSF lodged a formal complaint with the BDR, the sources said.

The way BSF acts on Bangladesh border is simply barbaric and inhuman. They regularly raid villages, do armed robbery, attack and shoot innocent civilians and BDR jawans w/o any provocation. Why were they doing deep inside Banglades border anyway?
