Chandigarh, July 23 In an incident that highlights the PU’s weak anti-ragging measures, five first year students of UIET were reportedly ragged in Hostel number 7, Panjab University. The five boys were asked to take a round of the campus in a nude state on Tuesday night. The warden, however, reached on time and rescued the five boys from the embarrassment.

The PU officials are silent and have not disclosed the names of the suspected students. Sources maintain that those who were caught ragging are second-year students of the UIET.

Dean Students Welfare Naval Kishore said that serious action will be taken against those found involved in ragging in any form on the campus.

“A complaint has been registered by the authorities but I have not received any report as yet,” said Kishore.

The university has also called a meeting of the Anti-ragging Committee constituted under the chairmanship of DUI, SK Kulkarni. This is first incident of ragging reported this year. Five students of the UIET had faced suspension last year on charges of ragging.

The authorities had, recently, received a hoax call pertaining to ragging. This put the authorities on high alert and a team under the warden was constituted for night patrolling of the hostels. It was during one such round of patrolling that the incident came to light.
