About 100 families of Chander Nagar were allegedly taken into confidence by the members of a health society on the pretext of holding a medical camp at a nearby gurdwara on March 8. For this, they had even sold cards per person. However, the functionaries of the society claim that they are authorised to hold such camps as their society is registered under the name'Allied and Integrated Health Education & Research Society'.

"I became suspicious after I checked with the gurdwara management and found that they are not permitted to hold any camp. We immediately raised the alarm and handed them to the police," said Harpreet Kaur Chopra of Chander Nagar.

While the residents allege that the agents failed to prove their credentials, the agents said that they were working for a monthly salary of Rs 4,000 as promised by the society.

However, police later said the society was registered in Delhi and had got proper documents.

While the gurdwara management denies having given permission to the NGO, society's general secretary Rupinder Singh said, "We had talked to the local councillor about holding a camp in the area. He told us that his brother was the president of the gurdwara. I was out of town and the members showed laxity and did not take permission from the gurdwara."

Putting aside any speculation, he said they had been regularly holding camps in the city with the due permission from the office of civil surgeon. He claimed to have sufficient proof to corroborate his statement.
