Chandigarh A day after 11 school children were killed in a road mishap in Ambala district of Haryana; another road mishap on Tuesday claimed six lives, while 14 were seriously injured in Sonepat district of Haryana. The accident took place this morning, due to heavy fog, near Budhlada in Sonepat district.

According to the police officials, the mishap occurred, when an overloaded maxi-cab (an 8-seater vehicle), collided with an oil-tanker, leaving six persons dead on the spot, while 14 others were seriously injured.

Due to the collision, a minor blast took place and cab caught fire. The traffic on the state highway, where the accident took place, remained disrupted for over an hour.

Ironically, this is the third day of the road safety week, being observed by the Haryana Police every year during the first week of January.

The injured were being treated at various hospitals in Sonepat district. The death toll is likely to rise, as four were stated to be critical.

The cab, which was not supposed to be carrying more than seven passengers and a driver, was in fact carrying over two dozen.

road accidents by Sivakumar viswanathasarma on 03 Jan 2012

what is the reason the road users in India are reluctant to adhere to the rules?Regulated speed and Cautious driving during rain or foggy weather can reduce at least the gravity of the accident though not the number of accidents.
