New Delhi, January 16: Stating that Indo-Pak ties should not be held hostage to the Kashmir issue, the BJP on Wednesday asked Pakistan to follow the Sino-India model of delinking the dispute over border with improvement of relations.

"The resolution of various issues between two nations should not be made hostage to resolution of a particular one issue", Leader of the Opposition L K Advani said in his address at the Dainik Jagran conclave in New Delhi.

He said India-Pak relations can be normalised without holding them hostage to the resolution of the Kashmir issue and asked Pakistan to recognise the usefulness of the approach adopted by India and China for strengthening ties.

"Pakistan should recognise the usefulness of the framework adopted by India and China for normalising and strengthening our bilateral ties, without holding them hostage of the resolution of the border dispute," he noted.

Delivering a lecture on democracy and conflict resolution in Asia, the senior BJP leader expressed concern over Chinese claims on Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh and noted that there should be no dispute over human inhabited areas.

"When there is an institutional arrangement to settle the border dispute, there should not be any public statements," he added.

He also spoke about the situation in India's immediate neighbourhood and criticised the UPA government for remaining a mute spectator to disbanding of the monarchy and ascendancy of Maoists in the Nepalese polity, noting that it has grave implications for both the countries.
