New Delhi, April 4: The Delhi Police will put in place a fool-proof security apparatus in the national capital for the Olympic torch relay to thwart any attempt by Tibetans to disrupt the event as part of their anti-China protests.

"All necessary precautions will be taken to ensure smooth conduct of the relay. Anti-terror and access control measures will be put in place," Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said.

He said the finer details are being worked out.

A senior police official said they will keep a special watch on Tibetan leaders in the capital and their activities.

"Spectators will be closely watched and frisked," he said.

The route for the relay has also been shortened in the wake of threat perceptions.

The torch-relay is taking place in the wake of protests by Tibetans against the crackdown in Lhasa.

With China voicing concern over the safety of Olympic torch relay during its India-leg, the government has sought to allay Beijing's fears saying all measures will be taken to ensure success of the event.

Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta has recently convened a meeting to take stock of the security arrangements for the event.

The meeting, attended by Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadhwal and officials of Indian Olympic Association, assessed the threat perception and discussed ways in which the safety of the relay of the torch on April 17 could be ensured.
