Pune The Pune police have booked Immanuel Paul Durairaj, the suspended director of recruitment and placement of Spicer College here, for sexually exploiting a 24-year-old college lecturer for the past one year.

Police said Durairaj had first taken obscene photographs of the lecturer, blackmailed her with them and developed sexual relations with her. This started in October 2008 and went on for almost a year.

The lecturer lodged a complaint of rape against Durairaj at the Chaturshringi police station on Wednesday. Police sub inspector A S Phalle, who is investigating the case, said Durairaj could not be traced. She had earlier filed a complaint against Durairaj with the college authorities. “The Spicer College authorities had conducted an inquiry and found Durairaj guilty and suspended him on September 21.”

The Pune rural police had on September 23 held three persons, including a school teacher Wilson Jack (32), a resident of Satara Road, and two peons of Spicer College — Lakhan Kamble (21) from Mulshinagar and Ravi Vinayak Avtade (26) from Parvati — for demanding a ransom of Rs 5 lakh from Durairaj.

The trio allegedly told Durairaj that they knew about his sexual relationship with the lecturer. The suspects then made threats to kill his family members if the money was not paid to them. Following this, Durairaj approached the rural police and filed a complaint. A team of rural police laid a trap and nabbed the three suspects at Loni Kalbhor.

“Jack was about to marry the lecturer. He and his two accomplices, who are peons in Spicer College, conspired to extort money from Durairaj, saying that they knew about his affair with the lecturer,” Phalle said. “Investigations revealed that Durairaj has sexually exploited the lecturer. So when the police questioned her, she filed a complaint of rape against Durairaj. She said she was helpless as Durairaj had blackmailed her with the photographs. We have not recovered the photographs as Durairaj has gone absconding.”

More than you know by Subash on 07 Nov 2009

Immanuel had it coming but because of his ties with the previous president he was able to escape. There is only so much you can do wrong before you get caught. He called himself a "Dr." but when the accredition group visited they discovered it was fake. But such things have been happening for a while. The current president's son who escaped to the States before the police could arrest him on a similar charge. I'm surprised the president didn't protect Immanuel considering that the president's son-in-law, the current church pastor, is a disciple of Immanuel's brother. Yes, the current condition of Spicer is questionable, but the college in the current state does not reflect the Adventist church...it just reflects on the current administration and the cancer that is some of it's faculty and staff. I can't understand why people need to cast doubt on the girl; it is very possible that any faculty member, in any college, can seduce/force someone into doing anything. Spicer clean house!

THE REAL DEAL by Concerned Alumni on 03 Nov 2009

This is tragic! Anyone who is familiar with Spicer knows that this is all bullshit and that the mastermind behind this madness is none other than Dr. JUSTUS! This punk has concocted a web of lies and deceit throughout his entire career at Spicer. His title is a disgrace to the students, the administration, and to the Whole Seventh-Day Adventist community!I'm tired of everyone cowering to this little man. It seems that no one will speak up against him. Perhaps it's because for fear of being slapped with bogus charges of blackmail and rape! How is it that he can afford land enough to build a MANSIONon a salary of 5,000 rupees? Come the f

Rape acquisation as a means of defence by Ex spicerian on 13 Oct 2009

As far as I have heard from different reliable sources this girl who is alleged to have been raped is of a bad charachter and has been having intimate relationship with various men at spicer itself, her father is a drunkard, very poor family, they came like beggers to the SDA church, now they are trying to make money in this manner. I wonder how she posed for obscene photographs, such photographs cannot be taken without her consent, then again it seems she has been enjoying this guys rape drama for one year, and only now she has a problem. guys.. there is a big man behind the whole case, this big man is powerful and holds a big post in the college, he is also sleeping with this girl, both these guys were thinking that they are the only one to use the girl, but when they got to know the truth, hell broke lose, Both these guys are known for womenising from my time at college. but only durairaj is in deep shit.

Shame on Indian Police! by Dhananjaya on 02 Oct 2009

Indian police is known for it's inefficiency and work for underhand bribes. Police officers should refrain from making judgements about Prof. Emmanuel Paul Durairaj without having any valid proofs. Prof. Durairaj needs to be respected as innocent until the verdict of court of law. It seems the whole story is well knitted and fabricated with ulterior motive of gaining supremacy over non nadar caste.

Change the Administration of the College by Vinod Patwardhan on 02 Oct 2009

Spicer College is again in the news for wrong reasons. This time a case of blackmailing and raping. Who is right and who is wrong the Court will have to decide over the next couple of months. However, until the fugitive professor is apprehended, and his statement recorded nothing substantive is likely to come to light. It is a tragedy that Spicer College, which is famous for its brown bread and peanut butter, should receive negative publicity at regular interviews. A couple years ago, the college had to go through a tough time because of the involvement of some of its Myanmarese students in a gold smuggling bid. Almost during the same time a professor was nabbed, and his 600 dollars confiscated while violating Foreign exchange rules. Then, came the violent and painful incidents of the student union. As denizen of Pune, who lives nearby, I strongly recommend that the Executive management of the college change the administrators, and restore its academic and spiritual culture.
