Four militants shot dead in J&K

Srinagar, June 20: Four militants, including a self-styled divisional commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit, were shot dead in separate encounters in Kashmir valley.

The self-styled divisional commander of LeT, Mehboob Ahmed Afradi alias Jugnu, was killed in a joint operation by Army and police in Baramulla district on Friday, a defence spokesman said.

Troops of 32 Rashtriya Rifles and special task force of local police launched the operation at Dangiwats-Khaipora in the wee hours following specific information about the presence of the militants.

The militant was asked to surrender but he opened fire and in the ensuing encounter he was killed around 0450 hours, the spokesman said.

In another operation, police and Army killed three militants at Sona Pindi in Kupwara on Thursday night.

On specific information regarding the presence of militants in Sona Pindi area, a joint operation was launched by Kupwara police and Army, Senior Superintendent of Police, Kupwara, Vijay Kumar, said.

An encounter broke out between the joint party and militants resulting in the killing of three militants, he said.

He said one more militant has been trapped and efforts are on to neutralize him.
