Kolkata, February 7 The Detective Department of Kolkata police have arrested a city-based doctor from Jharkhand for alleged involvement in a monetary fraud.

The doctor, Sujit Kumar Roy, who is an MBBS, arrived in Kolkata today, after he was arrested on Tuesday. He was produced in a local court and was remanded in police custody till February 12.

The deputy commissioner of the department, Jawed Shamim, said the doctor had allegedly signed an agreement with one Parimal Maity of AKL India Corporation in the first week of June to run his Basanti Devi Nursing Home at Garia Station Road on a 50:50 partnership with effect from November 11. Roy had taken a sum of Rs 20 lakh from Maity, but did not give him a share or refund the sum.

A couple of months ago, Maity lodged a complaint against the doctor and the department launched an investigation into it. But immediately after the case was opened, Roy fled away.

Based on the information available, a police team visited Muri in Jharkhand where the doctor had shifted a few months ago and arrested him. The sleuths also seized the agreement, said Shamim.
