Tiruchirappalli, February 15: Criticising the Centre for increasing the price of petroleum products, the CPI on Friday said the ‘friction’ among the UPA allies was ‘mounting’ as the Congress was not listening to the constructive criticism of the Left parties.

The Centre could have averted the price hike if it had “listened” to the suggestions made by the Left parties, party national secretary D Raja said in Tiruchirappalli.

“The hike was unwarranted and the government could have managed the situation otherwise,” he said. Left parties had suggested that the Centre should cut excise and customs duties to “minimise the burden on the common man”.

The “friction” among the UPA allies was mounting, he said adding the Left parties were continuously posing constructive criticism but the Congress was brushing them aside.

The CPI was anticipating a “poor man’s budget” this time.

The party had made representations to the Prime Minister and Finance Ministry asking them to be more “soft” with the poor and the common man, he said.

If the Union Government has to increase its revenue, it can levy corporate taxes, those on share transfers and stock exchange transactions and gift-taxes, Raja said.

He said there was “something fishy” about the losses in the stock market as “when there was a loss somewhere there should be gain for somebody else”.

Asking Finance Minister P Chidambaram to come out with the “truth”, he said that the activities at the National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange were “non-favourable” to small investors.

Infaltion story is wortld wide. by DILIP/FRANCE on 16 Feb 2008

Inflation is a Global phenamenon, difficult to buck the trend with subsidies and sops. With Oil prices at about $92 per barrel,it has increased the energy costs, all over the World.Even China is buffet with inflation, who are exporting it to the world, through price increases, exarcebated by the rise in food prices.Indians will have to pay the market prices or reduce consumption of oil.Subsidies and resources must be directed at the cost centes, where mostly required. The communist babus are out of touch with savvy and street wise poor Indians, who are using the capitalist tools to make thousand of rupees to better themselves and more will take this step as they become savvy, even the Communist peasnts are using this device to make money and getting RICH. It is about time we got rid of the yoke of this god forsaken communist ideology and doctrine, which is nothing more than a fairy tale,a myth and an Utopia. The efficay of the free market ecoomy has imploded and debunked the idelogy.

Stock markest are among the many,"weapons",used by the International Bankers to wreck Economies of and usurp power in Nations of the World. by immoral dirty crstyn on 16 Feb 2008

"Asking Finance Minister P Chidambaram to come out with the “truth”, he said that the activities at the National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange were “non-favourable” to small investors." Stock Markets are mere Gambling Dens, and the Government can have such "Houses",instead of giving a stamp of LEGITINACY,for this evil of Capitalism.

Left is right by Shekar on 16 Feb 2008

Film makers should learn a lesson or two from the communists of how to potently mix comedy, sentiments, thrillers and dance sequences from the communists. But this time they are on the right track since the rise in petrol prices will surely affect the common man.

For once, we agree with the Leftists ! by Sharad C. Misra on 16 Feb 2008

Discounting the pro-poor rhetoric of the Leftists we are inclined to agree that increase in the price of petrol and diesel would trigger inflationary pressure in the economy. These fuels, particularly diesel, are essential inputs in the production of all goods and services. It has to be remembered that around 35 per cent of their delivered price consist of Central excise duty which is a major source of revenue for the Center. It is rightly said that oil is the hen laying golden eggs which the Centre would ill afford to sacrifice. The sanest course would be to reduce this impost and make good the loss by tapping other sources like, scrapping of MPLAD scheme which is a development monstrosity, downgrading the security of ministers and MPs. banning foreign travel of MPs and civil servants, hanging corrupt MPs, Ministers and bureaucrats and taxing rich farmers. We regret to say that this Government has neither the will nor the courage to do any of thee.

Alternative to Arab oil by V Ram on 16 Feb 2008

To get rid of oil dependence, our Industries should be encouraged to invest in non-oil energy sector. That needs active help from Govt. to Industry, and not taxing/control etc. as the communist thugs want. Also Communists traitors may oppose oil independence, as then the veto Islamic countries have on oil becomes irrelevant, and their terrorist Islamic vote bank may be unhappy! Keep watching, just like they oppose nuclear deal they will oppose all other energy alternatives which make us free from Islamic oil yoke!

UPA govt by Rajeev on 16 Feb 2008

The aim of this sick UPA is to keep commies happy. So the govt should reduce the price of petrol, diesel by 50% and pay for the subsidies. This will ensure that govt spends all its money on oil subsidy and is left with nothing for other projects and then socialism can be unleashed with karat as PM.

Friction among UPA allies mounting: CPI by meher on 16 Feb 2008

It is not understood why the Communists are opposing so much increase in petro prices? Are they fearing loss of their vote bank.Rise in petro prices has become necessary to reduce loss of money by the oil companies due to increase in oil prices in the international market, which are controlled by the Govt. of India. If Govt. suffers loss, the money required for development works will not be available and the progress of the country in areas like infrastucture, education etc. will suffer. These parties should understand the realities of the sitaution.

How is responsible for creating this shit*? Ask yourslef if you conscious. by DILIP/FRANCE on 16 Feb 2008

The poor of India will only bnenefit when all the communist thugs are got rid and India is sanitised of vile communist ideology. Communismhas created indentured slavery of the poor and the ignorants, by palying on their fear and insecurity. Your time is up. Indians are getting well informed and getting wise, so pack up and get lost to China. The reason why India is so poverty stricken and endemic, is directly attributable to you thugs. Lets give you an example since Poland adopted free market, her economic growth has tripled from 1999 to 2007, compared to communist Rusia. An aveqrge Polish is richer than an average Russian, and do you why, because Poland wisely adopted FREE MARKET ECONMOY, that is why.Now take this FACT and digest and then vamoos, you goons have ruined the country with your cahoot Congress wallha, how so very depressing and you got the blooming chhek to preach to the poverty stricken, you sanctimonious hypocrits.

Its all BS from Left !! by Arrvind on 15 Feb 2008

Looks like its all rhetoric from Left. They will get some more "DOLE" from the Chairperson and they (left) will keep their mouth shut for some more time until they want additional funds at some point in time.Left will never be able to confront or challenge majority Cong party in UPA coalition. Every one has a price and why not left too !!! They (left) will not be able to help a common man and this is all politics.

CPI and UPA by Varinder Sarin on 15 Feb 2008

Although CPI like CPM is not part of UPA, yet enjoying maximum part of the cake without any responsibility. Perhaps CPI is worried about losing the cake if friction amongst UPA partners continues.

Commies stop whining by Jojo on 15 Feb 2008

Well commies if you want less burden on the common man, first let off the biggest burden on us - YOU! Why don't you just shut your party down and go find some decent common man's job instead of spreading idiotic brainwaves.

Fuel Price High Every where in World by Ajai Rajput from Boston USA on 15 Feb 2008

you have to pay high price for fuel because you don't have any control on fuel producer countries, how you will bring down down the line of 5 years, Your party is main hurdle Mr.D.Raja (Most vocal CPI man) for finding the alternative and creating lesser dependency of oil. Your are a growing economy and you don't have enough energy production and management. Up to how long you will stop price rise???
