Mumbai, February 13 The Bud Cup six-on-six football tournament will allow the common man to live his dream of representing the country. Like in the movie Goal, which depicts the story of optimistic football hopefuls, the same way the Bud Cup comes as an opportunity for anyone to play football for their country.

Though the characters in the movie had to go through a lot of trials and tribulations, in the real world, the ones who dare to dream will have to depend on their luck to take them to the Old Trafford.

The 2008 Budweiser six-on-six international final is scheduled to be held on May 5 and apart from India, teams from Cyprus, Norway, Sweden, England, Wales, Scotland, Paraguay, Ireland, South Korea, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Northern Ireland, South Africa, the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy will be participating.

This tournament is being launched launched in India for the first time and local amateur teams will have the opportunity of a life-time to rub shoulders with the current Manchester United squad and also play in their home ground by signing up on www.livethedream.in between February 20 to March 14.

Rob Newman, Sales and Marketing director, Crown Beers India says, “Football is a global sport and we can see that its popularity is increasing in India with the number of live matches being shown on television and also publications have increased their football coverage. “We are not interested in the country’s FIFA ranking but definitely looking at the people’s passion and enjoyment angles,” he adds.

There will be 25 teams from three states - Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, while 200 teams from Goa will be chosen through a lucky draw and they will compete in the regional finals to be held in Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Goa on March 29 and 30.

Newman declares, “So eight friends can come together and form a team. There can also be a mixed team as the basic idea is to have fun. There is no upper age limit but the lower age limit is 21 years”.

The format of the tournament will be consist of 20-minute matches with a team of eight players and a rolling substitution with the two reserves. The tournament will he held only in the southern and western regions of the country as the brand is being launched in those areas and Newman once again assures, “This event is definitely not for professionals, but for average people and the element of luck will play a big role.” He adds, “As we are popular in that region, the tournament should generate a good response there.”
