Patiala, February 19 Punjab Minister for Education and Civil Aviation, Upinderjit Kaur attended the annual prize distribution function held at Government Mohindra College in Patiala, on Tuesday. Kaur said that paucity of funds would not be a hindrance for the growth of education in the state.

The minister said that the upcoming budget would have ample funds for the education department. She said that steps would be taken by the government to ensure quality education for the masses. “Numerous posts of professors would be filled soon”, she added.

The minister said that efforts are also being made to provide education through satellite linkages in many colleges in the state. “Punjab has made progress with the opening of Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research Technology. A central university is also being proposed for the state”, she said. The Minister also distributed medals and prizes to nearly 400 meritorious students.

Most of the students who were awarded meritorious degrees at the annual prize distribution function were girls. “We are proud that the girls are doing pretty well in academics”, said DS Brar, college principal.
