The spokesman said supplies had stopped at Hazira in western India, from where natural gas is transported by a 2,800 km pipeline to northern India.
"There is no gas at Hazira," the spokesman said.
Earlier, Oil Sector Officers Association President Amit Kumar said Oil and Natural Gas Corp's gas processing plant at Hazira was being shut down.
Officials at state-run oil firms began an indefinite strike on Wednesday, demanding higher wages.
