GCCI seminar stresses on ample scope for women in travel industry

Ahmedabad, March 8 A seminar on the prospects of travel industry was organised by the business women's committee of Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) on Saturday. Chairman of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited(SSNNL) P K Laheri, said on the occasion that there was ample opportunity for women in the travel industry.

Laheri, who have worked at various levels in the state government in his capacity as an IAS officer, said that women women must make use of the growing opportunities available to them. They could easily make their presence felt in travel trade, he said.

He also appreciated the efforts of the Gujarati women in participating in trade and business exhibitions in the state, especially in the jewellery and handicraft sector. He said that the enterprising character of Gujarati women will help them succeed in the travel trade also.

Calorex Foundation chairperson, Manjula Pooja stressed on the importance of education for women. She said, “With proper education and support, women can do wonders.” GCCI president Paruben Jaykrishna said that the women entrepreneurs must set high goals for achieving business targets.

Nita Goswami, Chairperson of GCCI’s business women’s cell said that since booking for hotels, entertainment sites, ticket booking, medical and religious tourism was being conducted through the Internet, women entrepreneurs with knowledge of computers could take up these jobs from home.
