New Delhi, January 8 The Andhra Pradesh Police, with the assistance of Delhi Police, rescued around 50 girls from GB Road in the Capital. The officers said that Andhra Pradesh Police had information that pimps were trafficking girls from Andhra Pradesh and were forcing them into prostitution at GB Road.

A minor hitch was experienced in the court on Tuesday as the contents of the FIR, search warrant, arrest memo and other documents, were written in Telegu by the Andhra police. The court found it difficult to consider the plea and ordered the prosecution a day’s time to translate the documents into English.

The police said that Andhra Pradesh Police had started its raid around 8 pm at Kotha no 54, 56, 58, 60 and 64, at GB Road. The raid went on till late in the night. After the operation, which was carried under the supervision of SP (CID) Sumita of Andhra Pradesh, 51 girls were rescued from GB Road and 24 pimps, both male and female, were taken to Kamla Market police station.

The police had reportedly rescued around 120 girls but most of them told the police that they were there of their own will, so they returned to the kothas. The rescued 51 girls have been reportedly sent to Nari Niketan while 24 pimps were produced before a court and sent to Tihar.

Police said that most of the girls belong to Anantpur, Kadappa and Chittaur village of Andhra Pradesh. Police initiated the action after receiving a large number of missing complaints in Andhra Pradesh. The officers said that the arrested pimps used to bring these girls to the Capital and sell them to brothel owners. Most of the girls were reportedly brought to Delhi on the pretext of providing them jobs. The girls are in their early 20s except for nine minors. “The pimps, whom we had arrested for trafficking these innocent girls, sold these girls for Rs 15,000 to 20,000,” said an officer.
