GRP has directed police sub-inspectors and constables in all the 17 GRP posts to keep a vigil on traffickers.
On Tuesday, 40 GRP men who attended the lecture were given an insight into the various forms of trafficking, related laws, its impact and solutions.
Shwetank Mishra, the project cordinator of Saathi, said that the rise in flow of money and human trafficking are inter-related in big cities. He explained, “With the increased flow of money in urban areas, the demand for commercial sexual exploitation and child labour is on the rise. Trafficking of human organs is also rampant.”
According to him, the initiative taken by the railway police is part of a task force formed in 2005 by the Government of Maharashtra to curb child labour.
“Similar lectures and training will be organised for the city police also,” Mishra added.
Dilip Gore, senior police inspector of the Local Branch of GRP, Dadar, said that sex trade is the most common form of trafficking. He said, “The accused mostly hail from eastern states and cities like Meghalaya, Nagaland, Assam and West Bengal.”
