52-year-old Gadkari's name has been zeroed-in on for the top job to revive the organisation after it suffered its second successive jolt in the Lok Sabha elections, party sources said.
"Gadkari's name is final. He has been chosen by senior leader L K Advani after consultations with his party colleagues," a senior leader said.
Another indication of Gadkari's likely elevation came from reports from Mumbai which spoke of a race to occupy the post of Maharashtra BJP chief, at present being held by Gadkari who has made the party the main opposition in the state, replacing Shiv Sena.
The talk of Gadkari heading the party at the national level gained momentum after RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat made it clear that no one among the leaders in Delhi would be entrusted with the task. He specifically ruled out Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, M Venkaiah Naidu and Ananth Kumar.
Bhagwat is said to have named Gadkari and former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parikkar as the probable candidates for the top post while the party is maintaining that the selection has been made by Advani.

Now, having stage cleared for Gadkari to become the BJP President, the change of generation will come about in the party leadership. New blood with a renewed ethusiasm will be given the responsibility of runing the party. Now, the immediate task before him should be to get back into the party fold such leaders like Shri Jaswant Singh, Uma Bharti and so on. They were expelled or made to quit for no logical reasons. This will strength the party base. It is high time that internal democracy is restored and diversified approaches on every issue are encouraged. In this way, the party will become a debating platform for projecting diversified views. I am sure, with a dedicated cadre of highly disciplined RSS volunteers, the party will emerge on the top in future days to come.
At the insistance of RSS, BJP will be lad by a new person. This is a welcome move as the new incumbent will be a young face free from many of the political biases. As a part of his top agenda, he must ensure that persons like Shri Jaswant Singh, Shri Kalyan Singh, Smt. Uma Bharti, and so on are brought back honourably into party fold as they were expelled or forced to leave for no proper reasoning. Differing voices co-exist in any democratic environment. A true democrate respects the diversified views. At the most, in Jaswant Singh's case, the party could keep a distance from his analysis about a highly complex person like Jinnah.I think BJP will become more strong by becoming tolerant for other view-points.
Dear ABC, whole of India knows that MMS is just a puppet with string in the hands of Sonia Maino & Rahul. Why do you want only one family to rule. Can a nation ever achieve true democracy & growth & development for its PEOPLE if its ruled by a dynasty in a democratic set up. Think it over.
I think BJP should think from the organsiational point only rather than hearing the real BJP baiters appaering in these columns. NDTV, IBN LIVE are all will portray Nitin as irrelavant, marthi mannos, RSS agaent etc etc. They have no intention of BJP prospering. They will crticise Advaniji if he gose on ayatra from Somnath to Ayodhya and make as many obstacles as possible agaiunst Ram Mnadir, and then later on ask why you did not build Ram Mandir (when you dont have a majority). They are sickular and let them keep chamcha giri to No. 10 family. BJP should chart its own course, and not a reacting party on issues what others are creating.
It is the Joke of the day, "Advani ji has chosen Gadkari as BJP Chief". A man who can not keep his own position is choosing the BJP chief?. Let us face it. It is Marathi Manus again dominating the BJP and RSS. BJP/RSS/Shi Sena have the same agenda- Dominance of Marathi Manus.
It is a very positive development if such a young person is named as BJP President. This will no doubt will change the political culture of the BJP which at the present time is more or less dictatorial. As a first task, he must ensure that all such leaders like Shri Jaswant Singh are brought back into BJP fold who were expelled for no logical reason. A true democratic spirit demands that diversified voices co-exist with in the framework of a political part and party leadership must respect such a scenerio. Expelling any body even with out giving him a chance to explain is the highest form of autocracy. A political party has to take all the people together. Then only can we say that party is doing a correct job. I trust the new president of BJP will be a person with new thinking.
BJP has only to go up. It is encouraging to find that the party has decided to bring in someone from the younger generation to lead the party and move it forward. Mr. Ajwani has done his best for the organization and it is time for him to leave the scene. I hope Mr. Gadkari will think afresh and inspire others to think afresh as well. He shouldn't get entangled in parochial and narrow-minded issues. The country needs a clear goal and set of objectives. The party should attract the intellectuals of the land to develop clear visions for the society. The BJP's policies and principles must help India blossom in all fields of activity; they should enable every citizen to become a fullfledged, freethinking, fully productive and contributing individual and not dependent on help from the government. It should also think of India in terms of a world leader with clear and broad-minded visions. India cannot afford to be stuck in a mire of religious hatred.
Seems BJP going to be hijacked by RSS now.It was presence of Atal jee and Adwani who prevented BJP from getting carried away with some of sangh's obsolete ideology, and maid BJP a nationally acceptable party and brought it to a national fora but by making Gadkari party cheif its mere a nomination and putting a face to finally take over BJP...anyways its on them to decide the party's fate
Nitin Gadkari should stop speaking Marathi language as we do not want to see a nationalist party leader speaking the language of terrorists and traitors who back stabbed our Mother land. Marathis are eating salt of India and chanting Jai Maharashtra instead of Jai Hind.
Well said! With traitors and terrorists like Chhatrapati Shivaji, Baji Prabhu, Tanaji Malusare, Sant Dnyaneshwar, Sant Tukaram, Sant Namdeo, Bajirao Peshwa, Rani Lakshmibai, Shindes, Holkars, Gaikwads, Lokmanya Tilak, Gopalkrishna Gokhale, Vinoba Bhave, Swatantryaveer Savarkar, Dr. Hedgewar, Guruji Golwalkar, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Baba Amte, Anna Hazare, Sharad Pawar, Bal Thackeray, and now Raj Thackeray, Marathis have infested our beloved Bharat for many many years. One of them is in the Rashtrapati Bhavan right now! I can understand your pain as their terrorist activities have prevented your generations from realizing the dream becoming devout muslims. Given your wisdom and judgement, you should suggest how we can reform these tyrants. Better yet, annihilate the community which is a hurdle in Bharat's "progress". Patriots like you have brought hindi from less than 1/3rd people knowing it to about 40%. Keep up the force and the day will come when it is 100%. Jai hind. Jai Maharashtra.
Nitin Gadkari is not a good choice as BJP president. In his leadership BJP will be wiped out whatever is left. BJP leaders in Maharashtra are not capable of defending Hindi speaking people and on the contrary they are supporting Raj and Uddhav Thackeray who are anti-nationals.
Our country does not need jihadi Lal or Gadkari like politicians. We need Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi or Shastriji.
what is the contribution of JLN created the Kashmir dipute, lost war to China and was one of the chief architect of division of India.Yes country needs the leaders like Indira Gandhi she was the bold and dynamic leader, who not only influence the politics of the region but change the geography of sub continent.India needs the leader like Atal Bihari Vajpayee who has transformed India economically and made India one of the leading economic power he is the force behind the development of infrastructure of the country and made our country strong militarily and economically. I don`t have much knowledge about nitin gadkiri but knows that he is one of the important figure in the development of infrastructure in Maharastra.
Gadkari is a silent worker. He always stick to ground and have some vision on future. Mumbai Pune Express way is the example of his vision. He was PWD minister when it was constructed and also Bandra Worli Sea link decision was taken under him. Most importantly he knows his limitations and believe in working instead of only dreaming high
It is time for the BJP to start moving up. This is the moment it has touched the very bottom it could go downwards. Nitin Gadkari is truly the very apt choice considering his performance during the brief BJP-SS rule of Maharashtra. Now it is time for BJP to rise and release the air from the balloon of high floating Congress. With absolutely no values, Congress has been spoiling this nation and BJP is the only good option. Kalyan Singh and Uma Bharti are returning to the fold and it is the start of revival of the BJP.
Sometimes one wonder's why the RSS is hell bent on finishing the BJP.First Rajnath and now gandhari who ever he is . Why does the RSS feel so threatened by the efficient and time tested leaders like the Jaitley's ,Swaraj or Venkaiya. The other most intriguing aspect is why the BJP leaders allow the RSS to interfere in their party matters .
The decision to appoint Mr.Gadkari as next bjp president is a good decision. Being a selfless worker he can bring back the lost glory of the bjp.
I think it is a very good move as worker coming from the lowest rung of party hierchary can rise to become the head of that Party. This will only srenghthen the democratic values as people will feel that they can also reach the top instead of Prsidents belonging to only one family as if it is a personal jagir and no one else has any stake/claim to ever become the head of the Party. All those who praise congress have feudalistic mindset and want no change since any change in the system will affect their selfish interest. How new ideas can be generated and new goals achieved unless there is a change. If winning elections is the only aim then one can very well see the condition of W.Bengal where Marxists have been winning elections for 30 years and still the state is in poor health.
There is no family succession in CPM either! It is incorrect to suggest Congress does not have new ideas because of same family in leadership roles. Leadership styles and values of Nehru, Indira, Rajiv, Sonia and Rahul are drastically different from one another. Manmohan Singh will be third longest serving PM and doesn't belong to Nehru/Gandhi family. It is just as difficult to come up in BJP. BJP may not be family succession but has similar cliques.
no,if u r saying manmohan calls all the shot in this govt. u r wrong, its sonia gandhi.and again rahul gandhi had no say in campaigning or selecting candidates for the election.he dint want to select candidates based on their caste but on their knowledge for the constituency, but he was ovr ruled by senior party leaders every time.thats why he quit that selection process.west bengal had different chief ministers but their ideology is same and way of functioning is same since decades.so both of these parties bear no change and are not democratic.
Mr. Gadkari is unalbel to carry his body weight. How will he handle whole bjp (burning house)?
the bjp dont have a royal family which has the strong foreign lady and her family,
Who cares...by changing the bottle the wine doesn't taste different..after all it is BJP which propogate to devide the nation on communal grounds..now its mentor had its final word...we can see more destruction on the way.....
Your post is the classical case of shooting the messenger! BJP under Vajpayee never said "only Hindus". Rather it said "no appeasement of any religion". That is not being communal. The campaign for uniform civil code was in same spirit-something SC also observed should be in place. Rather Congress, by segregating Hindus & muslims, and appeasing the latter (while keeping them backward)was dividing the country on communal lines. Spreading the message that rules be same for all - is not communal. Though Left & Congress have always dubbed it so, for vested interests.
Why these so-called secular parties do not want to have uniform civil code, if they really keep all region equal? Is it not strange?
This is not going to end BJP infighting it would increase the infighting instead. No senior leader at Delhi will cooperate with Gadkari. Moreover, Gadkari is not on good terms with Munda. Let's see!!!
it is better than having a foreigner having to lead a team of inefficient goons, they will only accept foreign leadreship
Mr. Gadkari ..start taking HINDI Lessons !!
Can you enlighten me on why he should switch from one regional language to another?
we know rahul gandhi son of smt sonia gandhi speaks like marati manoos, okay madam
The main issues for the party are offering an alternative to the present dynastic ruling party, which takes into account the issues of the majority of public of the nation, who would vote the party into government. Jobs, housing, electricity, water, roads etc. Religion and division, internal personal politics within party, position bargaining, private swiss accounts, public positions for relatives, etc are not some for the non-issues to interest the public to vote the present opposition party into government. Younger leaders in high level positions which appeal to 50% of the voters, fresh reforms as well as progressive, constructuive and forward looking vision and ideas for planning the future of the nation should be the main focus and attention to the focus groups which measure the pulse of the voters's wants and needs is the big question. Address the big questions first and make the party electable by common consent of the public majority.
Excellent !! Inervention of RSS is highly appreciated. The Party should have gone from bad to worse, had the mantle fallen on Sushma, Jeitley, Venkaiyah or Ananth. Party needs an organizer not an orator. Jaitley is good to face the press while Sushma is good to make hollow forecasts. Vankaiyah already tested; but Ananth Kumar is already creating problem to Karnataka Govt. There should be no place for power seekers in BJP. All those who are enjoying status, power and posts of profits should be told to work for the party than getting into the VIP displays. This only could help the Party. Advani must retire and be in the Advise room. Good Wishes..
If the RSS really want to change BJP they should inculcate some values in their leaders. The leaders should behave just like leaders. They should not breed root less wonders as in Congress. They should give tickets to real party workers rather to wives, sons, daughters or inlaws. They should discount money first. Unfortunately party tickets in major parties are given to dependents of so called leaders. The party should be led by state leaders who have stake in the party than armed chair politicians, they vie for each other for positions. While common man suffers from so many problems like price rise, unemployment, sucide of agriculturists, terrorism, natural camaities etc. the main opposition party leaders are busy fighting each other and they don't bother about common man. How can they expect the people will vote for them in future.I want BJP to be strengthened for the sake of the country as it is one of the major national party.
I don't think this is a good move. With his leadship BJP did not win Maharastra elections. How is manage BJP to win the national elections?
