Gagan Narang settles for silver in Munich

New Delhi, January 25 Ace rifle shooter Gagan Narang (picture right) narrowly missed gold and settled for silver in the Munich open rifle and pistol competition in Germany. The Indian shooter lost a close battle for the title to Russia’s Denis Sokolov in the final.

According to information reaching here, both Sokolov and Narang had shot 597 in the preliminary round, but in the final Narang shot 103.4 which was 0.2 short of Sokolov performance of 103.6.

Narang’s aggregate was 700.4 (597+103.4) while Sokolov’s total was 700.6 (597+103.6).

In the finals, except Narang’s fifth shot which was a 9.9, rest of the shots were all 10 plus.

Nemanja Morosavljev from Serbia shot 700.3 (597+103.3) to win the bronze.

Narang, who skipped the Ahmedabad national competition to prepare himself for the Summer Olympic Games, is among the nine shooters to have qualified for Beijing.

After the Munich competition, top rifle and pistol shooters who have qualified for Beijing Games will go for an exposure trip to Sydney.
