Gallant Major makes parents, Palampur proud

Dharamshala, January 27 “We are proud of our son,” said A.K. Shukla and his wife Sushma Shukla, when asked to comment on their son Major Anshul Shukla being decorated with Shaurya Chakra, the second highest award in peace, on Republic Day by the President of India for showing exceptional courage and bravery while fighting militants in the Eastern sector.

Sushma Shukla, who is teacher in a government school, said, “I wish every mother gets a brave son who brings honour to the nation.” A.K. Shukla, who is Deputy Commissioner, Relief and Rehabilitation, with the Himachal Pradesh government, said it was a great honour not only to the state, but to the entire country. A.K. Shukla revealed that Anshul is the first person from his family who joined the Army.

Major Shukla, who hails from Salyana village in Molichak panchayat near Palampur, had led a party of jawans in an operation against militants and killed three of them in Manipur. For this act of bravery, the President awarded him Shaurya Chakra on Republic Day on Saturday.

Major Shukla did his schooling from DAV School, Hamirpur, and later completed his graduation from the Government Degree College, Rampur Bhushahr. After training from the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, Major Shukla was commissioned in December 2002. At present, Major Shukla is serving with the Assam Rifles.
