Chandigarh, September 01 Gaming is a rage that is increasing by the day amongst youngsters of the city. This is clearly reflected by the increase in the sales of play stations as well as other gaming accessories in the recent past.

Dealers of gaming equipments feel that this segment is going to pick up more in the future. One of the major reasons being cited for the increase in sales is the factor of portability. The player can be carried along while making a journey or going on a holiday.

The manager of Music World throwing light on his clientele says, “Our major clients are parents who are pestered by their kids to purchase gaming equipments along with the college-going youth. It is mainly boys who show interest in this segment because the games are normally action-oriented pertaining mainly to racing and WWF. We are recording an increase of around 12 per cent in the sales of gaming equipment every month.”

He adds that games like Karaoke where one can sing along with the popular songs, as the lyrics are displayed simultaneously on the screen, are also gaining popularity, thanks to the reality music shows being aired on television. PS3 (Play Station 3) and X-BOX 360 are already available in the markets. PS3 pegged at Rs 26,000 offers a memory of 40 GB while X-BOX 360 costing Rs 24,000 has a memory of 20 GB. Both of these equipments offer high-resolution and quick download facility.

Traders for the past twenty years, JetAge Computer Traders, Sector 17, said: “We are seeing an increase in the sale of joysticks, gaming mouse and gaming pads. The new gaming pads and joysticks with vibrators are gaining popularity as they add to the thrill of playing ‘racing games’.
