Adelaide, January 22: Indian vice-captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Tuesday dismissed any notion of disquiet in the dressing room over the furore, which has followed the team in the wake of Sourav Ganguly's omission from the one-day squad.

"I think it has affected journalists more than it has us. We are back in the practice session, we trained in the morning, it has not affected us anyway," said a defiant Dhoni on whether the team's preparation for the crucial fourth and final Test had been disrupted by the supposed disharmony after the Ganguly ouster.

Dhoni did not want to field any question on Ganguly as he said the Adelaide Test was the team's priority and the one-dayers could wait. He gave enough indications on the kind of leader he wants to be, as well as the batsman and wicketkeeper he was hoping to be in his yet fledgling career of 25 Tests.

"What Anil (Kumble) has stressed is that there should be a lot of communication between us. If somebody hasn't been picked for the side you have to go there and convey it to him," he said.

Dhoni said there should not be any communication gap between the player and the captain.

"As a captain, I believe and go by instinct. It isn't as if I don't plan, I make it very clear to the bowlers because it's ultimately they who would bowl according to the field."

Dhoni, as a flamboyant batsman, appears to be rearranging his game and is more intent to stick around and spend time at the crease.

"Generally, they have tended to bowl quite outside the off-stump to me. Only Stuart Clark who looks to bowl an off-stump line, otherwise the rest want you to chase the ball, if it's not moving a great deal.

"When you get in, you don't want to chase the ball outside the off-stump. That's what I followed in England in other Tests also."

As a wicketkeeper though, the Ranchi lad really appears to have come of age.

"There hasn't been any change in the way I keep. Only, here in Australia, you get more time to react to the nick. In India if a Zaheer Khan is bowling at 140kmph, you are still standing only 12 yards away from the stumps.

"As for keeping to the spinners, Anil bhai most of the time makes the batsmen play. You are behind to gather the one ball which would make the difference."

With so much of expectations about him, Dhoni knows what he needs to do to keep his feet on the ground.

"It's not about the people's expectations, it's about the players' expectations. It's not the people who play the game. It's the players who face Brett Lee or Shaun Tait.

"There is enough pressure just by playing for India and so it's very important that you enjoy the game."

Looking at how the Indian team has performed in this series, Dhoni had a lot of good things to say about his team's performance.

"They (the Indian medium-fast bowlers) are swinging the ball. Australians play fast bowlers well, the only area you can really trouble them is swing bowling. Our bowlers have bowled consistently and encouraged the batsmen to go for the drive," Dhoni said.

"Getting the breakthrough is important and we are getting it. It's a moral victory, coming to Australia and not letting them beat us comfortably," he said.

Dhoni said the team was high on morale and enjoying its game.

"We have been playing tough cricket for the last one month, it's good for the team's morale and everyone who has been part of the side.

"It's a very happy unit we have at the moment. There is enough pressure just by playing for India and so it's very important that you enjoy your game.

"It's not about the people's expectations, it's about the players' expectations. It's not the people who play the game.

Ultimately, it's the players who face Brett Lee or Shaun Tait."

Dhoni you better perform. As first two test matches you were tereble by sudeep on 23 Jan 2008

Drop Kumble. He made a few wrong decisions in Perth. Dropping Harbajan is suicidal in Adelaide. He over bowl himself in Perth especially in prime swinging times.May be Ganguly could work as a captain. Why no body likes him? He is such a great fighter. If he was Australian he would be so much respected.I also think Dhoni and Kumble are bit threatned by Ganguly's formSudeep

CROCADILE TEARS by CROCADILE on 22 Jan 2008

WHEN LAXMAN IS DROPPED ,NO ONE CRYS.WHEN GANGU IS DROPPED, EVERY ONE CRIES LIKE WOMEN.LAXMAN IS FAR BETTER THAN GANGU IN FIELDING

It's simple, people cry for ganguly because they love him. by Ambar on 23 Jan 2008

Surely Laxman is talented, but he can never be compared with Ganguly. Why majority People cry for Ganguly's omission, because its not only the selector's but the general people too understand the game of cricket and the politics. Talking about 2011's World Cup just reminds about 2007's WC, which I believe people want to forget as a night mare. I'm not a blind fan of Ganguly, but I respect his passion and talent, and the power to bounce back.

ganguly omission by abinash bharti on 22 Jan 2008

it is very shameful event and again internal politics.i heared kiran more statement about mission 2011.who can forget guru greg and mission 2007.nehra,zaheer,ganguly all were ommited from team and very soon we got the disaster result.too in world cup 2007 ganguly was highest run-getter from indian side.u need energy and also experience in ur side.dhoni and yuvi will very soon learn that.sachin saurav and rahul must play according to their will.saurav has delivered good in recent series and also in england.there is no any reason that he must be in team.dhoni and company will very soon learn the lesson and too their departure like this will also not affect the team.

Dhoni --- Be aware, the same situation will come to you shortly. Be with Prince rather than be with politicians.

runs vs fielding by Indi on 22 Jan 2008

When there is no runs to save, what a good fielding side will do. Foolish to think of saving runs, when there is no one good enough to score runs.

ODI Team sans Seniors! by Pradeep Phadke on 22 Jan 2008

Dhoni and the upstarts will learn only after a complete white wash later in the season. They may not even qualify for the finals as Sri Lanka are not another Bangla Desh (sorry, even they can beat India sometimes!).It will not be surprising to find Dhoni,Yuvi failing with the bat and the likes of Sri santh with the ball.

Ganguli's exclusion by dr.h.d.waikar on 22 Jan 2008

It seems Mr.Dhoni was responsible for Ganguli's omission.I think captancy has gone into his head.I am sure he will repent his decision very soon. Its not the way to treat your best bastman.Mr. Dhoni you will also face similar exit in future.Just wait for some time.

Ganguli's exclusion by Navin on 22 Jan 2008

Good that Dhoni has not taken it as a serious thing, for one dayers only youth and exhuberance will win matches, and we could see in the tests, whenever ball was collected by ganguly the crowd booed him for his sluggish fielding, player should not only come good with the bat or ball but also in the field, that makes a complete player. I completely back Dhoni.
