Kolkata, January 21: Train services in two sections of Eastern Railway were on Monday affected as irate supporters of Sourav Ganguly put up a blockade at Barasat in North 24 Parganas protesting against the cricketer's exclusion from the Indian team for the triangular tournament in Australia.

The protestors, comprising mainly young men, started the blockade at 10.05 am, raising slogans demanding that Ganguly be reinducted into the team, according to an Eastern Railway spokesman.

"We want Dada back. It's a conspiracy," the protestors shouted.

As a result, train services between Barasat-Bongaon and Barasat-Hasnabad sections were affected.

The Indian selectors had yesterday dropped Ganguly and also left out two other senior pros, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman, while announcing the squad for the tri-series which will also feature Australia and Sri Lanka.

Uncivilized by Sabya Sachi De on 22 Jan 2008

The first two words you have started your writing with shows the background you belong to. You have every right to criticize or praise Ganguly but do not bring regionalism into your writing. One word of advice. please improve the standard of your language.

Here we go again by Vijay on 21 Jan 2008

Exactly the time when you think, the indian team is united and working as a cohesive force to dismantle the so-called australian supremacy, this hapens. I do not know why BCCI does this from time to time. We need politicians out of this and have some sensible people calling the shots. This does no good to Indian cause

Classic example of human idolism by Prathap Chithapuram on 21 Jan 2008

When Dravid was dropped, no one from Karnataka stopped buses or burnt them. But every time Ganguly is dropped, they do those things. This is stupidity. The Left party always claims to be doing better for the country and I would like to know where they are in this case. Left politicians only talk but do not follow through in practice. The fans should understand that Dravid, Ganguly and Laxman don't meet the standards of today's one day cricket. I do agree that dropping all of them at one time does not help the team but at some point in time they need to be replaced. I don't want to see them on team while they are in the early forties like Gavaskar. He was a liability at that point except for batting. The game requires players that are good in atleast two of the three facets of the game.

ITS NOT A GOOD THING TO HARRASE THE COMMON PUBLIC BY BLOCKING TRAINS FOR THIS SO CALLED BIG REASON. THERE SHOULD BE A MIXTURE OF STRONG PERFORMER LIKE GANGULY AND DRAVID AND OTHER YOUNG PLAYERS IN OUR SIDE.BUT ITS NOT MEAN THAT WE CAN PLAY WITH OUR PUBLIC ASSETS. WE CAN USE ANOTHER WAY OF PROTEST LIKE SILENT RALLEY AND SEND THOUSANDS OF ROSE TO SAHRAD PAWAR'S BUNGLOW BY USING GANDHIGIRI.

Old and New by Sridhar on 21 Jan 2008

No doubt Ganguly does not deserve to be dropped. However, the old has to yeild place to new talent. The behaviour of fans is atrocious. Only Gangu can control them

BCCI by TUSHAR DAS on 21 Jan 2008

IT IS SURELY STUPID OF ANY BODY BLOCKING TRAINS FOR THIS TRIVIAL REASON OF DROPING ANY PLAYER FROM INDIAN CRICKET TEAM AND AT THE SAME TIME IT IS ABSOLUTELY NONSENSE ON PART OF SHARAD PAWAR TO BRING POLITICS IN CRICKET. HE SHOULD RESIGN AND MIND HIS OWN WORK IN MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE WHICH IS ACTUALLY A WEAK LINK IN OUR COUNTRY'S GROWTH CHAIN.
