The Municipal Corporation had announced the project six years ago with an objective to meeting the growing water demand at Ganguwal, which is located 18 meter higher than the Sector 39 water works. In 1997 and 2000, the MC had sent a proposal to the PEC to check the technical feasibility of the project. The studies, however, had given a green signal to Ganguwal project.
MC executive engineer (Public Health) RP Gupta said after the frictional losses during the supply the net available head would be around one foot, which is sufficient enough.
Now, the MC has started the process again as the UT Adviser Pradip Mehra during a meeting held last month had asked the officials to check the feasibility of the project.
The MC had requested the Survey of India to find out the shortest route. The Survey of India has told the MC that they would conduct the survey once the area is specified to them.
A major challenge before the MC is now acquisition of land for the purpose, as major portion of the 70 km stretch lies in Punjab. “Once the PEC submits its report, we will request the Punjab Government for land,” said Gupta.
