A mobile phone has also been found, thought to have been used by convicts to run their business from inside.

The mobile phone was discovered from ward 20 and displays several numbers to which calls have been made and received from. Jail officials are trying to sniff out who these men can be and what business they conducted with convicts.

On the other hand, six convicts were shifted to other prevention facilities to bring some peace in Presidency. The rival gangs — one led by Sadiq Zaffar or Gudda and the other by Howrah ganglord Ramuah — have been at each other’s throats since last Friday. Though officers could contain the violence, sporadic fights were still going on till late Sunday. Gudda ran a profitable business of extortion in the Rajabazar, Narkeldanga areas. He is wanted in several cases of extortion, dacoity and attempts to murder. Ramuah is booked for murder and extortion. Six members of the warring gangs have been bundled out — three to the Alipur Jail and the rest to the Dum Dum Central Jail. Gudda and Ramua too have gone with their gangs.
