Ludhiana, June 23 Though the industrialists had expected business transactions worth Rs 500 crore in the five-day national buyer-seller meet, trade worth Rs 450 crore has already been carried out in the first three days of the event. The participants are expecting the business to touch the Rs 1,000-crore mark.

Sudarshan Jain, Managing Director of Sarjeevan Hosiery and the co-coordinator of Knits and Wears said, "Buyers are coming from across the country. Till this afternoon, nearly 450 buyers had come and majority of them have booked more than 70 per cent of the orders. It is a big hit."

Vinay Likhi, from Time Options, said," I was hesitant to participate in the meet and had booked only two rooms to meet the dealers. But later, I extended it to four rooms and the next time I will display my products in a big hall."

Earlier, the garment manufacturers from the city used to go to Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai etc to book their orders for winter. It is for the first time that they have organised a meet in Ludhiana.

Jain said, "The orders booked in these three days are equivalent to bookings through three different tours to different cities."

M L Jalan, Managing Director of Sohum Shoppe Limited, a buyer from Guwahati said," The meet is so much convenient as here one gets everything under one roof. Earlier, I used to go from one city to another in search of right designs and used to spend a lot of money on commuting. This year, I have saved nearly Rs 50,000."

Vinod Thaper, President of the Knitwear Club, said, "We are happy with the response of the buyers. We will organise the show on a bigger platform next year."

The meet, which will last till June 25, has been organised under the banner of the Knitwear and Apparel Manufacturers' Association of Ludhiana (KAMAL).

Hotels jam-packed
Apart from giving good business to the hosiery manufacturers in the city, hotel industry in the city is also cashing in from the meet. Enquiries revealed that more than 500 rooms have been booked in different hotels across the city where either exhibitors have displayed their products or the buyers are lodging.
