Gay sex shouldn’t be legalised at any cost: Lalu

Patna RJD chief Lalu Prasad denounced Delhi High Court's ruling decriminalising gay sex and felt the Centre should appeal against the judgement in the Supreme Court.

"Gay sex should not be legalised at any cost and the Centre should appeal against the verdict in the Supreme Court. I am dead against legalisation of gay sex and will strongly raise the issue in Parliament. Section 377 of the IPC should not be amended," Prasad said.

Asked whether homosexuality is still a crime, he said: "Yes, it is a crime... Such obscene acts should not be allowed in our country. The society is adversely affected."

"Such things which affect the society should not be permitted at all... Government has a greater responsibility towards the society," Prasad said.

"I don't want to talk about such rubbish things. These are obscene things which our country and culture do not permit," he said.

The Delhi High Court had on Thursday legalised gay sex among consenting adults holding that the law making it a criminal offence violated fundamental rights.

"homosecsuality "?"psycologist"?"secsologist"?You've just proved how much you know about sexual preferences. I think you need to research a little more and get your facts right. "they should buried until their neck and stone them to death"??You're in India. Get a life, or move to another country. Its very embarassing for us to know that there are people who are so narrow minded in our country.

Do not advertise yourself in the name of society by sukam on 07 Jul 2009

Human freedom is essential so long as use of that freedom does not impinge on another person's freedom. The court verdict is all about freedom of choice. The latest religion is "LIVE LIFE YOUR WAY AND DO NOT HURT ANOTHER PERSON WHILE DOING SO". And this is valid for any faith(the so called religions). So there is no need to create a big rucus about the court ruling. Open your mind and you will find this a non-issue.

This is not Talibanistan where we bury people in sand and stone them to death just because they choose to love differently.I think you are in the wrong country.

Counselling required by talib on 06 Jul 2009

He who is a gaey is not a gaey by birth. There is always some incident during the childhood/puberty that leads to one become homosecsual. It's a researched fact that homosecsuality is a kind of ailment that needs to be treated by proper counseling from a psycologist or a secsologist. Legalizing this ailment will destroy our society. We are in a secular country unlike other countries whether the people destroy themselves with a false notion for freedom. As an Indian regardless of the faith, how can one see any of our sons/brothers getting involved in this shameful act. People like Karan Johar and others who promote this shameful acts in their films should be punished. Karan himself is a homo. I like the shariah (islamic) law of punishing the homos - they should buried until their neck and stone them to death. If this punishment is levied in India, easily this homosecsuality disease can be treated 100 per cent.

Gay.. its an ill wind that blows the society no good by JOSHUA KIPKEMOI BOITT on 06 Jul 2009

We should learn to walk before we run,Oh! no legalising gay rights ,the society in shambles we have lost a sense of direction and are doomed to perish. We should not emulate the nations that legalises gayism, but learn to create our own rights for posterity.Lau Prasad is right ,we should not legalise gay sex at any cost.On the other hand, the society is to blame for brewing gays, how? our sons and daughters should be given freedom to mingle to one another in school and at home if we are to avoid gays in society,it all begun by them.. not able to mix freely with the opposite sex,but critics will pipe hot on this. This is the genesis of gayism...an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. The wind is blowing and penal code has been change,377 flashing when and where will it be restored to its glory back to you Supreme court...make it a better place for mothers and fathers are wailing we have hope in you.

Re: M by RC on 06 Jul 2009

There you go again, A! You deign to give gays the freedom to be themselves (how generous of you...NOT!), but not to be treated as equals. Do you see your own prejudice and hypocrisy? Marriage is a contract between two people. It's between their God and them, not you or anyone else in society. Separate, but equal hasn't worked in the United States and other places and it won't work in India either. It doesn't make sense.

Re: Please have some shame and don't let the GAY disease spread !!! by RC on 06 Jul 2009

Speaking As An Indian - Would I want my parents or children to be gay? I wouldn't wish it on anyone (because people like you exist who are homophobic and prejudiced), but if they were gay, I'd love and accept them.Government isn't created to control people's lives. It is created to protect freedoms and to provide certain services for which we pay taxes. It has no business telling consenting adults what they can or cannot do in the privacy of their bedroom and neither should anyone else.No one is asking you to become gay or practice gay sex...why should it bother you? However, apparently, you associate being gay to being lewd and losing self-respect. It's safe to say you suffer from homophobia. In fact, it's entirely possible you are gay and suffer from internalized homophobia. Self-hate is a terrible thing.Sexual exploration has existed since the beginning of time and isn't going to stop even if there are laws against it.I am more proud of India now than I've ever been!

Re: Retired by RC on 06 Jul 2009

Barinder, let me edify you...smoking is allowed by law in India, and 377 isn't about smoking or drugs or anything related to that so your argument is invalid.Second, your saying gays and lesbians are sick and should be sent for treatment makes about as much sense as you saying all people with blue or green eyes are sick, should not be treated equally and should be sent for treatment. Upholding human rights and treating others with dignity is what this verdict was about. Something most religions don't seem to be able to appreciate or address in this day and age.India has a rich history (including Kamasutra, Khajuraho temples). Don't throw it away. Don't ignore the mention of gays/trans in our scriptures - Ardhanareshwar, Krishna turning into Mohini, Arjun cross-dressing as Brihannala, Shikhandi and so many more.Per your logic anything the British gave us, we should keep. Well, they threw away 377 in their own country because it was wrong, shouldn't we follow suit?

Re: Homosexuality no place in Indian culture by RC on 06 Jul 2009

Plucking buggers from your nose in public is indecent and unhygenic and it's offensive to most of society, will you stop?Religion should uplift people not used as a weapon against what doesn't make sense to you or feels uncomfortable. Saints like Dhnyaneshwar, Buddha and Jesus were discriminated against for who they were and what they believed in till enough people realized what they said was true. They didn't discriminate, who are we to do so?Religion and politics are flawed and so discrimination, bigotry and inhumane treatment are generally dealt with best thru laws. It is the job of laws in a democracy to make sure that human dignity is upheld, that society doesn't treat anyone (including gays) as second-class citizens.Gays don't create gays, straight people do. There's no injection or potion which will make people gay all of a sudden, so there's no fear of future children becoming gay. Ignorance is no excuse for discriminating against others. Educate yourself.

Re; Why organise melas? by RC on 06 Jul 2009

This is what is called homophobia. Why hold processions and melas? It's the same as people going on strike. It's a form of protest and a vehicle to show pride, by marching in the streets they tell you not to ignore them any longer. They are asking you to look at them for the human beings they are, not trash to be ashamed of and swept under the carpet. There's nothing sinister about asking for your what is rightfully yours...human dignity. Gays aren't recruited, they are born out of straight parents. No one is encouraging propogation of homosexuality. Even gays will tell you it's not something they would choose to be if they could, esp. not seeing how they are treated or mistreated. But let consenting adults love each other. It is no one else's business what they do between themselves. They aren't harming anyone.

Re: Progressive Life by RC on 06 Jul 2009

I guess India is one step away, just like the U.S. and the other 100 plus countries where being gay isn't a crime. I guess people can't tell the difference between the words "consenting adults" and "animals". Maybe that's the reason the discrinimating laws are on the books so long. Deriding the word "progressive" is like Americans using the word "Democrat" or "liberal" to make a point. Using scare tactics and name calling instead of making sensible arguments is the refuge of bigots. Making life better for everyone and working to increase human dignity is progressive. If anyone has a problem with that, then they're the ones who need to be checked out.

M by A on 05 Jul 2009

It is about human rights, it is about freedom, we should not act as a god to punish others when they are not harming the other person. But marriage is a sacred word and should not be used for legalising gay/lesbian relationship. They should come up with some other word and leave them alone.

Progressive life by John David on 05 Jul 2009

India is just one step behind legalising human sex with animals. Very soon the animal rights groups will come up with such claims that animals have the rights to have sex with human beings because everyone have their basic rights to be respected. Even animals are living beings. It is not going to shock the worlds as already many ppeople have sex with their pet animals.JND

To Do Away by Alistair L on 05 Jul 2009

That fool should not open his mouth as each time he does shit follows, maybe he should read the dictionary.some one should explain to him that people like that are born that ways those are their jeans. How our Government employs these fools who do not know political history and cannot speak a word of English who are corrupt criticize the western culture run the nation maybe the govt should hold talks with the western world and permit free passage to all Christians to the west, India is not a place for Christians maybe India should be ruled by these fools after all and see where it ends up eventually without taking on any outside help what so ever thats what most of the ministers think they can do achieve it on their own and then when the city crumbles maybe they will change all those fools up there and others will have a chance to lead decent and normal lives at least I for one do not want money and power I am content with all God gave me and even more

Gay India by Sean Collins on 05 Jul 2009

Gosh! I am surprised at how many people are prepared to deny gays their human rights in India. How are gays a threat to anybody there in India? The opposite is the real case. What bullies! Leave them alone. Pick on some-one your own size and solve some of India's real problems.

When will Laloo be convicted of graft? by Ram Prasad on 05 Jul 2009

If there was any justice in India, Laloo would be serving life in prison for having robbed the country. Instead he gets to make derogatory comments about the gay community.Maybe the the supreme court could take this as a project, instead of dictating how the Australian government should take care of Indian students.

IMMORAL ? by Kabirdas on 05 Jul 2009

Religious views are made the basis to call a human behavior moral or immoral. However quite often such views have lost the original spirit of their own tenets which give birth to misplaced traditions and distorted common sense. Casteism, colonialism, materialism, religious intolerance and human prejudices are each an expression of such deviations. As our human challenges grow, we are looking to reform our tenets and beliefs from within. Gay sexuality is not too common anywhere yet has existed as long as humans have. Though found in a minority, like any sexuality, It is by birth and develops over time (acquired or fashionable gay behavior cannot be called gay in a true sense). Society need not fear them. Excessive sexual deviance of any kind can be a social concern but the indiduals should be encouraged to take them up themselves, not coerced through legal or social means. Gay issue is about diversity and the call to coexist with differences. Morality that is imposed is immoral.

Mr. Laluji is a true Human, by Sartaj Ahmed Khan on 05 Jul 2009

Lalu Sahab, is a decent true human and a through gentlemen.Who dosent support the dirty disease in our country and society.I personally agree with him and support his views which is good for mankind and our society for our next generations to come. Those who support this judgement they will see that they are paving a way for their offsprings misery and suffering. This is not an normal human act it is a grave sin according to any religion of the world. Therefore i suggest before legalizing this insane act countries responsible institues should carry out a debate among all religious heads and take their consensous instead of blindly leagalizing such an imoral act in our society.Sartaj

Readers comments show backward thinking by xcat1 on 05 Jul 2009

The comments by politicians and readers show how backward in thinking many are.It will take another 100 years before people in India catch up to the kind of modern thinking that you see in the west. Its no use talking about India being the worlds largest democracy and a potential first world country. To be a modern first world country, you have to be progressive in all areas like infrastructure as well as tolerant of others religion and lifestyle.Maybe in the future, religion will not take as important a place as it does today.

Legal Opinion-Consensual Sex Freedom Plus The Actions Humanly by Balbir Singh Sooch, Advocate, Ludhiana on 05 Jul 2009

Delhi High Court Sets Historic Benchmark. Sexuality Equality-The consensual sex freedom or otherwise any actions humanly are mainly connected with questions of difference between the rights and wrongs or the truth and the falsehood in the context of the privacy and the dignity of each individual. By trespassing the privacy and the individual dignity of consented parties is always wrong and unwarranted under the law. From the judgment, it looks as basic structure of our constitution was ignored in India so far. UN called the judgment as a land mark ruling in India from human rights angle and to encourage more HIV victims to come forward to seek treatment and information. Now, it looks as India also slowly submitting before the world opinion and agreeing to reduce the gap between the truth and the falsehood, preached hypocritically by many means in India. The worldwide joyous mood and opinion of the section of society must be honored and respected. The freedom is also not without riders.

Indian culture-what is that ? by Sri Tatsat on 05 Jul 2009

I am amazed by the way people have talked of Indian culture. what exactly is it ? Draupadi slept with 5 husbands- Shri Krishna had 8 wives and we still take pride in calling it part of indian culture.I am not saying what happened was bad but neither is what is happening today. "un-natural"- give me a break. Creating dams to disrupt the natural course of river is unnatural too. I have observed that laws tell us more about "what not to do" than telling what to do". Please spare us from your overprotection.Well educated, aged people fail to grasp the essense of freedom- because they are already pre-occupied with their definitions of propriety. Why make a fuss over something like this- tackle bigger problems that lie ahead.Where was Raj thackary when Mumbai was attacked. He features on anti-bihari forum only. likewise, Lalu ji...Please. I respect you as a statesman but you fail to make an impression as a logical, educated person. Learning from younger generation will not hurt you. Namaskar !

Gay/Homosexual Liberties by darvan on 05 Jul 2009

Legalisation to enforce their demands on others is abhorrent. This process of legalisation ultimately leads to enrol children and innocents into their fold. Children upto puberty cannot distinguish gender differences and would become a target for these fringe philosophies to pervert innocents.
