‘Generating power from rice husk a landmark’

Ludhiana, March 17 An agricultural camp on ‘Saving Natural Resources’ was organized by Kirshi Vigyan Kendra, Fatehgarh Sahib, at the grain market of Khamano Kalan.

PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Manjit Singh Kang was the chief guest on the occasion. During his visit to a unit of the Laxmi Rice Mills group that generates electricity from rice husk, Dr Kang said that such unconventional approaches can be a landmark in addressing the problem of shortage of power in agriculture sector.

The Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the group, Balbir Singh Uppal, appreciated that under the leadership of Dr Kang, PAU is striving to encourage new innovations in agriculture research and development. Dr Kang also saw a demonstration on Happy Seeder planted wheat. He pointed out that mechanization helps to bring in precision and timeliness in agricultural operations, that promotes farmers’ profitability. He appreciated the efforts of Sukhbir Singh Kang for arranging these demonstrations.

Dr NS Malhi, Director of Extension Education, said that PAU gives priority to exposing farmers to knowledge about processing and marketing in agriculture. He added that PAU plans to organize courses in these areas for vegetable, fruits and flowers.

Progressive farmers Giani Hardev Singh, Prof Nirmal Singh and Thakar Singh Khamano, Member SGPC Dr Ajmer Singh, former Director Agriculture, Punjab, Dr KS Sekhon, former Dean, Postgraduate Studies, PAU, subject matter specialists of PAU including Dr JM Singh, Deputy Director, KVK, Fatehgarh Sahib, Dr Harmanjit Singh, Dr Anil Sharma, Assistant Director (TV and Radio) were also present on the occasion.

The PAU experts spoke to the farmers about the judicious use of agricultural inputs.
