Majitha, January 25 Non-Committal on the issue of his elevation to chief minister, SAD (B) working president and MP Sukhbir Singh Badal today said it was the party that would decide if he would contest any parliamentary seat and not he, adding that the media was obsessed about the issue. He also said the party was fully prepared for the Lok Sabha polls.

Junior Badal, who was here to inaugurate dozens of developmental works in Majitha constituency, being represented by his brother-in-law and Cabinet Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, said they would contest the parliamentary elections on an economic agenda. “Development, infrastructure and ‘misdeeds’ of the previous Congress regime would be the issues the party would focus upon, apart from national issues,” said Sukhbir.

On the issue of freight corridor up to Attari border, he said the state government would take up the matter with the Centre and he, along with BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, would rake up the issue in the upcoming parliamentary session. He also said the year 2008 had been declared as development year by the Badal government and the whole state would see a major change in progress and economic activities.

On whether development works would be confined to Majitha and his own home constituency, Sukhbir said the whole state would witness development. He said the major decisions to be taken this year includes ownership rights to farmers along the Indo-Pak border in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur and Gurdaspur districts. He laid the foundation stones of three power grids at different places and for upgrading of the power grid at Majitha, at a cost of over Rs 10 crore.

Apart from this, upgrading of schools with assistance of telecom firm Airtel at neighbouring Chananke village and laying foundation stones for grain markets were the other projects unveiled by junior Badal. He was accompanied by Cabinet Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike, MP Rajmohinder Singh Majithia, various MLAs and party leaders.

Navjot Singh Sidhu, who also spoke on the occasion, showered praises on Bikram Majithia and compared him with the great general of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Hari Singh Nalwa.
