The film has got a "bumper opening" worldwide. "It's a well made film even though the length is a slight hitch," Trade analyst Amod Mehra told reporters.
The advance booking for the film is four times more than the record opening any movie has ever got, Khan said.
According to trade sources, the film has been released with nearly 1,500 prints. The paid previews all over India yesterday have boosted its box office collections, they said.
Critics said, despite flaws in the story, the treatment and presentation made all the difference.
"Asin is a lively actress and poses a serious threat to the present leading Bollywood heroines. Aamir is the soul of the film. However, its length should have been trimmed by half an hour," they said.
Decks were cleared for the smooth release of the film, entangled in copyright issues, after Madras High Court lifted the stay and Bombay High court refused to grant a stay on it yesterday.
The three hour and four minute long film, written and directed by A R Murugadoss, is the remake of a 2005 Tamil film by the same name starring actors Asin and Surya in the lead.
The film was also dubbed in Telugu.

The story and screen play of the movie is very nice and music scored by Mastro AR.Rehman obiously fantastic. Amir Khan given a great thron to this movie , the acting style the manarism used by him are fantastic. Really it will be one of his best.In my place it is difficult to get the Tickets , Every one saying the name Amir,,,Amir,,Amir..Really he is amir in actings...
Its a brilliant effort by a brilliant actor. Aamir rocks !!! Must watch film. Much better then SRK's RNBTJ. He is truly the real king of Bollywood !!!
Ghajini has everything in it! It's a full on entertainer! Action, romance, comedy, drama, suspense, style....all packed in one. Aamir Khan was the highlight of this film. Superb performance by Aamir! Asin was adorable too, while Jiah Khan was good. All rumours about the film are rubbish. It's a really entertaining, thrilling and emotionally charged film and not all gore and violence. You can watch it with your family too. Poora Paisa Vasool!
Sorry to disappoint you if you expected to catch a memento here. Nobody could dare to reproduce the magic of Memento. What we have here is an Indianised and simple version brilliantly scripted and easily adapted by Murgadoss and team. The Hindi version just had to match the deliverance of the Tamil version. And yes it did. True it looks like a frame to frame copy, but hey thats what we had liked, and would have cribbed more if the makers had divulged in the path. Credits to the team for recreating the same majic, especially with Asin's character, because in the original she was one of the pillar reasons for its success, due to her author backed role.And without uttering a memorable dialogue, Aamir has punched a winner here.

Some of these "SRK lovers" did not even see the movie - Ghajini - and began to rate 0.0 - DOES THAT MAKE SENSE - lol - I feel sorry for these blind srk fans - try to enjoy other actors as well - and Guess what - Stop fighting for actors - you dont make a dollar of them - just enjoy and move on with your life - stop critizing - and do something in your life!!!

It is not at all wrong to be the fan of SRK but you also have to accept the maestro work done by their counterparts. Accept the reality that Ghajini is a well researched and attracting audience with its own peculiar subject.
seems like a good movie as getting tickets is difficult.
