Brisbane, March 3: After an ill-tempered cricket season, retiring Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist is awaiting his stint for the Indian Premier League to enhance relationships with international players.

Discontent for players had hardly been restricted to incidents on the field as they have been dealing with sledging controversies and tiff the Cricket Board on various issues.

"I think the situation this summer has got out of hand somewhat," Gilchrist said.

"Hopefully, over the next week we see some great cricket, the series will finish and we'll all just move on and forget the almost tit-for-tat reactions that have been going on," he said.

Players from various countries will be playing together as one team for eight clubs in Twenty20 competition.

"That's where I see something like the IPL is going to be ground-breaking territory. That's going to be an opportunity for players around the world to get to meet, know and understand opposition cultures and customs.

"I think that's going to be a very positive off-shoot of the IPL. Any world XI team I've ever played in there's always been a great camaraderie in the rooms," he was quoted as saying by the 'Herald Sun'.

Australian captain Ricky Ponting will join Indian teenager Ishant Sharma at Kolkata, while Matthew Hayden and Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be the teammates at Chennai Superkings.
