Thane, November 1: Revenue Minister Narayan Rane has said that youth in Maharashtra should get their due share of jobs in industries set up in the state.

Stressing that industries in Maharashtra should try to give at least eighty per cent of its jobs to youths in the state, Rane said that such demands for 'sons of the soil' should be made through democratic means and not by resorting to violence.

Rane was speaking at a function in Thane on Friday after inaugurating the Malwani Jatrotsav, an annual festival held across Mumbai and Thane.

He said that the annual festival, held for a period of three-months, is not only a means of entertainment but also provides good opportunity to entrepreneurs from Malwan and Konkan, who exhibit and sell their products here.

Merit and not quota systems by Ram on 03 Nov 2008

India has to proceed on merit and not on a quota system first through caste and now a regional division . This new activism for Maharastrians is unfortunately not driven by people but politicians wanting to get to powerin the next election. We have to come together and combat this

No economy thrives with such attitude be local, national or international. Maharashtra has made impressive progress so far because of its pragmatic policies.

Who cut my soil??? by Ratyendra on 01 Nov 2008

The son of the soil concept is not in good spirit for national integration. Afterall, how can one decide who is the son of the soil. If a new factory is set up in Nagpur, many parts of MP or AP would be much closer to say Mumbai in Maharashtra. So, who should be given preference- a 'Mumbaikar' or a person from out of Maharashtra, but a place closer that Mumbai.. What should be the basis of parting the soil state/district/village/street..you keep on deviding...

Hi by Kaushik on 01 Nov 2008

There is no such thing as a "due job share".Build your capabilities.Bihar has a much better educated population. Yet, the people of MH voted congress to power - the same congress that colluded in keeping a corrupt laloo in power in bihar - the same laloo who caused the closure of almost all opportunities in bihar resulting in migration. Yet, now, the same marathis are crying for a "due" job share.

BUSINESS by YOHAN on 01 Nov 2008

HIS DEMAND IS RIGHT AND SHOULD BE MET BY PEACEFUL 'GANDHIGIRI' TYPE MEANS. BUT ONE QUESTION TO HIM IS IT PRAGMATIC DEMAND? IF YES, CAN HE BE A MODEL. LET HIM START A MANUFACTURING COMPANY ON HIS OWN OR WITH PARTNERSHIP WITH HIS EX-PARTY LEADER, RAJ THACKERAY, AND EMPLOY 80% OR MORE AND SHOW IT TO THE WORLD, THEY CAN RUN BUSINESS. LET HIM EMPLOY 100% MARATHIS AND PROVE IT TO THE WORLD. AND THEN PUT SUCH DEMANDS UP. THE FACT IS THAT TECHNICALLY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL NEED TO BE RECRUITED FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY, AS FULL MANPOWER REQUIREMENT CANNOT BE MET FROM ONE STATE ALONE. HE SHOULD UNDERSTAND THE REALITIES. IT IS A CHALLENGE TO HIM TO SHOW BY EMPLOYING 100% MARATHIS IN A MANUFACTURING CONCERN.

Get the best manpower available by Marathi manoos on 02 Nov 2008

Yes,I entirely agree with Yohan. All enterprises and businesses in all states must employ the best manpower available in the entire world. And the best manpower available in the whole world is 100% available from the two states of Kerala and W.Bengal, the people of which have made a complete mess of their own states on the job front!
