“This was the first meeting of the GoM, so various issues are being examined. We will meet again and after some more discussions. The Law ministry, meanwhile, will prepare a note on the project,” said a senior official.

Besides Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, the GoM has on board Finance Minister P Chidambram, Law and Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal and some legal experts.

To be called the Taj International Aviation Hub, the airport, around some 60 km off the Delhi airport, has been stuck owing to the existing Policy on Airport Infrastructure, 1997, which does not allow any Greenfield airport within 150 km of an existing airport.

While the ministry has largely been in favour of the proposed airport, the souring relationship between Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and the Centre may stall the project, it is speculated.
