Panaji, October 14: Goa police on Tuesday booked Education Minister Atanasio Monseratte's elder son Rohit following a complaint by a German woman accusing him of sexually and mentally harassing her minor daughter.

Police sources said 21-year-old Rohit has been charged with offences including rape, abetement to crime and outraging the modesty of a minor girl.

A German woman had complained on October 2, that her daughter was being mentally and sexually abused by Rohit.

Police, who initially sat over the complaint, swung into action today following the German's threat to approach higher authorities if the accused was not booked.

Western Influence by Concerned Goan on 18 Oct 2008

I being a goan living in the US have been to Goa recently have observed that there is lack of control from most of the parents when it comes to discipline and culture. The western influence over today's youth and the lack in parental control in todays community has contrubuted to such problems. I myself have seen minors push themselves on their elderly pears and friends.

Police do your job fearlessly! by Eddy on 15 Oct 2008

When it comes to ministers the Police have to tread carefully. This is because the state's home minister has the power to transfer a govt. servant at any time. For example, most Police in the state would consider Panjim a lucrative post. Their oppulent lifestyle with all comforts and education and medical expenses of their family depends on it. Hence they would not like to be pre-maturely transfered to a remote posting or put in charge of the Police godown or library, for example. Several learned persons have called for the de-linking of police control from the State home minister to another independent authority. But this has not happened for obvious reasons. One of the reasons is the reluctance of the Police to arrest those in the ruling party Govt. and their family members. I have my deepest sympathy for the German women, even if she has adopted the hippie culture. Hippie culture encourage peace and love NOT rape!

Blame the victim by Sheena on 14 Oct 2008

This is response to the comment "Goa- A wayward state" by Capt Prashant. It is appalling that he is blaming the mother for not controlling her daughter and stray in a manner "not appropriate" to Indian culture. He appears to be mentally sick and resorting to blaming the victims. It is because of perverted characters like him that abused women do not bother to come out in public and complain. It bespeaks well of our Great Indian Culture-

Minority? by Shankar on 14 Oct 2008

Please don't take any actions against him because the suspect is a Christian. They can kill and rape whoever they want. Remember not to hurt the feelings of minorities and the freedom guaranteed by the constitution. Nicolas Sarkosy or pope will warn Indian prime minister for atrocities against Christians!.

What the hell by Jojo on 14 Oct 2008

Honestly, Capt. Prashanth, what are you talking about? How does going around in a free country against Indian culture? They are tourists, they are meant to go around the place. I call it a closed mentality and it has nothing to do with Indian culture or anything. Is befriending others not appropriate to the culture? I am sorry, but your 'Indian' culture is way different from my 'Indian' culture. That boy should be given a good taste of the law.

Goa- A Wayward State by Capt Prashanth Basavaraj on 14 Oct 2008

Is this what the rich and the prodigal sons of our Country's politicians are up to??It is really shameful and derogatory on the part of the father for not having been a responsible father. Peer pressure and the easy money lucre spoils the children. Lets protect children and make them future idealogists, not criminals.I also blame the mother of the girl for not controlling her daughter but to let her stray in a manner not appropriate to the Indian Culture. Lady, Respect Indian Culture and advise all your Friends who bring their hippie children here and then shout hoarse.Let the law take its course.

capt prashanth basavaraj by siddharth bedi on 15 Oct 2008
